  2. The stop sign that says "STOP – ARRET" is obviously a Canadian one from Quebec, or maybe New Brunswick. Stop signs in France just indicate the international/English word "STOP".
    The Lake of Geneva (official name, Lake Léman) is shared between France and Switzerland. Actually the Swiss own more of it than the French. Geneva is a Swiss city, almost entirely surrounded by French territory but in Switzerland.
    The Rhine River marks the border between France and Germany for a bit over 200 kms of its 1230 kms length. The photo shows a part of the Rhine Valley in Germany, way north of the French border.
    France's land area is 630,000 sq.kms if you include its overseas territories spread across the world. Mainland France (its European part) is approximately 544,000 sq.kms – which still makes it the largest country in the European Union.

    Speaking of overseas territories, two more fun facts…

    1. the direct flight to/from Paris from/to La Réunion (off the coast of Madagascar) is the world's longest single domestic flight (9365 kms).

    2. France's longest land border with another country is the border with… Brazil (act. between French Guyana and Brazil). It's 730 kms long, about 100 kms longer than the European border between Mainland France and Spain.
