When I leave the US and spend time in Europe on vacation- I eat more, drink more, move less and LOSE WEIGHT.
This sounds horrible. So regulated and strict.
As a Canadian who has lived in France for the last 5yr. I have to say that French ppl dont eat "healthy" they eat differently. They are ppl no different form anyone else. They eat McDonalds, drink coke, eat lots of carbs…. but what is a big difference is that they are not a snacking culture. 3 meals and if you are a child you have goûter and its typically sweet like a piece of chocolate in a piece of baguette. Or if you are an adult the apéro 2hr beofre dinner. Obv not everyone does this. I dont. If you live in a city its a walking culture. I was into fitness before moving here and i would say that when I first arived the gyms here were vacant but now they are getting more popular. Food here is more simple and they have more regulations in what goes in them. But I would not say that french ppl eat more healthy than others.
man this rocks
How do french people keep their skin nice when they're smoking all day?
I think the food quality is so important. I remember coming back to the US after studying abroad in Japan and even though I was struggling to eat a lot of the food due to them feeling too heavy or too greasy, and even though I maintained the same level of activity, I gained a lot of weight in just two weeks. The food quality in the US can be so frustrating – you have to put in so much effort into finding quality food, and between fad diets and pricey, trendy health food stores, I can't help but feel like I'm getting scammed if I try to eat better.
That’s very interesting you don’t eat until 8pm. In the U.S. that is relatively late.
none of this is why. it's easy to be thin in France because they ban so many dangerous chemicals that the US uses in the food supply. these chemicals trigger high levels of inflammation in the body, thus causing dangerous metabolic disorders. that's the reason why its easy to be thin in France.
Interesting feedback on food education for children. I'm an American, age 62, and my family generally ate breakfast and dinner together. We were called to the table by my mother and expected to eat what was put in front of us. Table manners were important and we were corrected in this areaa. No special meals. We did usually eat at a certain time, maybe 7 pm, to accommodate my father's return from work and cooking time. We did not eat prepackaged foods for lunch or dinner. Things like TV dinners or frozen pizza were for when my parents were going out at night and we had a babysitter but my mother preferred to make things from scratch, which is what her mother did. Sweets were also a special treat, which she limited.
I do relate to the weight consciousness. My mother was very concerned about her weight and her daughters. Both my parents would comment about our weight and the importance of not being fat. I actually don't have a problem with this looking back, and neither do my sisters. I am glad not to be struggling to walk up and down stairs, to not have diabetes and other conditions that are so common to Americans and associated with obesity. My sisters are the same. As we are all getting closer to retirement age we prioritize our mobility and health.
The French only eat when they're hungry. They skip many meals, and they eat much smaller portions than Americans.
I have been to Paris a few times loving a French man, and I can say that it is easier to forget the Eiffel Tower, man included 😅 ahaha but not the freshly baked croissants 😊
Americans have treats multiple times a day
The way you cut that tomato had me nervous 😭😭 1:39
Love the Bears cup
Small portions. Unfortunately, Americans are more interested in quantity than quality.
why are you so thin? followed by… Why are your portions so small? each question answered the other.
you do not cook the mushroom? A genuine question, I would love to try raw mushroom too. Quality of food thing is real, I am living in a country where most of the food we export are sent back from EU because it does not qualify the food standards and include lots of chemicals…So markets are full of these foods here and other options are really expensive- if one can find the authentic ones of course.
I love the French eating customs and always lose weight there. But when I am in America, I can’t seem to make it from a nice 1pm lunch all the way to 7 or 8 without getting really hungry. Not sure what the issue is.

I like how it is very detailed, it's very european habits actually but also, as a french oerson i think that we are a country that didn't develop that much in industrial fodd even thought it exist of course. But, it needs to be pointed out that in big cities, it looks like other countries, we have a lot of new access to Uber, Deliveroo, etc…
Of course, as many people growing up in the french country side, there is still a quite strong education about fresh food, and local as well.
My personal opinion is that france is always going to keep its cultural approach of food, but fast foods are bigger and bigger, also making the obesity go up…
Anyway, i cant prffict the future but i'll forever be a food maker and a pastry/ bread lover. I cant help it, it's in my blood haha
I have noticed some thin people from Asia or Latin America who come to the USA and put on a lot of weight. When they go back to their home countries they return to their original weight.
13:20 I love that Sunday lunch IS a special event in France
Food in Europe, especially France, are very particular about the ingredients they use and almost everything is made fresh! No refined or processed foods! And the ingredients list on the processed foods are natural and minimal. Compare the ingredients of a box of Kellogg's cereal from America vs the same cereal from Europe. American food corporations are poisoning the public because they're in bed with the big pharmaceutical companies. Sick and unhealthy people equals profits for the pharmaceutical companies prescribing synthetic lab-created medicines that create more side effects than relief. Healthy people, no profits.
It’s annoying that most of the food in my supermarket aren’t fresh except for sweet bakeries at least my family has a backyard garden
I want the salad recide from the video! ❤ thank you so much for this content. As a Russian who moved to Canada and then to Spain, I've experienced the difference in the portion size and also the amount of processed foods. And even un-processed ones taste differently, in canada some veggies and fruits just lacked the flavour. But the portion size (and coffee size) was huge
Would be cool if telling someone they've gained weight or are fat would not be an insult. If we valued gaining weight , it could even be a compliment. But unfortunately, being slim is glorified, so any remarks related to weight gain are seen as insults
I loooooooooved frites when i was there❤❤❤ Absolutely my favorite❤
Food additives are poisoning us in America.
I noticed that in Germany inviting friends over for dinner is so much more common than meeting at a restaurant. I love this! It’s so much sweeter, intentional, and mindful than being in a busy place.
And all that smoking !!
Diabetes in France is one of the worst in Europe isn't it? And the death rate in relation to type two is also really high.
I am American and do most of
That. Always have. I am a southern and the south was always similar to that. I am also from Louisiana.
I loved your Motomami album!
Do you have suggestions for embracing this way of eating when visiting France if you have celiacs/extreme allergies? We do a lot of general French culture eating at home, but between some of my family members having significant sensory issues (autism) and my celiac’s disease, I sometimes worry that we won’t be able to visit France safely.
So, basically what you're saying is that if it were not for all those American and other tourists, Paris restaurants, and Italy's, too, I suppose, would go bankrupt because most French, and Italians, would rather eat at home but tourists have no choice but to eat out or that's what they're in Paris for, right? So, tourism supports the French and Italian restaurant industry whereas Americans hate to cook and would rather eat out as much as they can so have less control of what they're really eating
oh, btw, saw 👀 you making a salad with raw mushrooms. The word on the street is that mushrooms need to be cooked, at least sauteed lightly, before eating them 😜
You cut raw champignon mushrooms in the video for your salad? Isn't this toxic for your body to eat this specific mushroom uncooked? That is what I read. But it probably doesn't kill anyone, at least not immediately?

I'm Canadian, but I'm older. I never even heard of families not eating together at strict mealtimes unless people are eating at work or school. We ate earlier (8 AM, midi, 6 PM), but at completely regular times. We also ate the same meals as our parents. In France, I saw children eating coquillettes with bits of ham (where were the veg???). But they still grew up thin!
Sugar not every day? Well, strange… It's very french, all my friends always ate nutella or kellogs for breakfast, a gouter, a dessert every day. Our mom didn't want us to have chocolate for gouter or sweet breakfast.
And the portions in the restaurants are always big.
So yes for the cooking at home and the walking, but not everything. And in france we eat a lot of cheese and bread. It's not really helping staying fit.
And we start with salad, that's a good habit.
It's easy to be thin anywhere in the world. Just eat the right amount for what you do.
I’m French, and yes I use to pace my eating based on how quick others ate. Now I live in the UK and the Youtube Adds pace my eating 😭
Because many of them smoke…
