  1. So I live in Maine and we make green shit but it’s
    1 container of cottage cheese
I can of drained crushed pineapple
    1 container of cool whip
1 packet of pistachio pudding mix.

It’s very good even though it sounds yucky lol

  2. You can’t eat it, but I love a Watergate salad. It uses pistachio pudding mix, marshmallows, Cool Whip, crushed pineapple. Some people use coconut.

  4. Another delicious one that isn’t green, is pretzel salad. It has a pretzel crust and a cream cheese mixture and then strawberry and pineapples, mixed and strawberry Jell-O on top.

  5. My husband is from Missouri. I need to inquire about this "salad" because I've never heard him, his family or friends talk about it lol I've never even seen one. We have friends in Arkansas too (we go there often), no dice there! We even live in MO now and I still have no clue what that green thing is. 😂

  6. The midwest isn't known for cooking well, quite the opposite. They cook similar to Russians flavor where it doesn't belong and no flavor in anything that normally has flavor. Jello ambrosia salad is sour and revolting. It's a horrible mix of fruit salad and a jello mold.

  7. We make ambrosia but we don't melt our marshmallows into it. We leave them whole. And we use pistachio pudding. There's also an orange one with no nuts in it.

  8. I believe the midwest salad you were going for is Watergate salad. Should be made with pistachio pudding, and definitely not that runny mess. I do understand that you need a substitute for the pistachios, but lime jello is not it. I would try it with maybe some plain vanilla pudding. And fold it into the whipped cream!!!

  9. 100% the ambrosia salad recipe you found was rage bait. However, a lot of the comments here about pistachio pudding, whipped cream, nuts, fruits etc is correct. I hope you try it the right way ✨

  10. We make a cranberry fluff (Kansas) and it’s
1 package dream whip (you can use cool whip but the texture isn’t as good)
2 cups fresh cranberries heavily chopped
    3/4 cup of sugar
    1/2 cup seedless grapes halved
    2 cups mini marshmallows
    2 cups apples
    1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Chop the cranberries and add the sugar to them and let it sit for 20 minutes. You mix the dream whip according to the package instructions. Add all the ingredients together and stir. It sounds insane but it’s so good!! It’s got good texture from the apples and marshmallows, tartness from the cherries and sweetness from the grapes and marshmallows. Please try it! The green salad is the WORST in my opinion of all the weird Midwest salads.

  11. Hey Rachel, maybe you can do a viewers mildly off-putting family recipes…because I have a doozy for you. 😂

  12. I make a jello salad similar to that in the summer. It is just lime jello, sour cream and pineapple (I use the bigger pieces and chop them down a little bit).

  13. My mother in law makes this version:
1 cup crushed pineapple (drained with juice reserved)
    1 cup water
2 packages lime jello (3 oz each)
    1 cup mayo
    1 cup evaporated milk (canned)
1 cup small curd cottage cheese
    1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
It looks and sounds crazy, but it actually tastes pretty good, I know so unhinged, but this is an old recipe.
The candy cane pastry looks so good!!!! Def need to make that!

  14. I’m not totally sure but I think when we make it we use cool whip, marshmallows, the pineapple and cup mandarin oranges 😁 not sure about everyone else but we eat it at Thanksgiving!

  15. Midwesterner here. Hate ambrosia salad. I feel like it doesnt normally have the marshmallows melted they're normally just mixed it and its more like pudding and cool whip. Never seen mayo in it but im not surprised. Hate that stuff😂

  16. I knew it was gonna be green stuff
I grew up with it not sure who in my family it came
    From it’s delicious

  17. What if…just hear me out…that candy cane was made half with frosting and half with cheese???

  18. Bruh… why are you excusing yourself about poutine… poutine isn't anywhere close to being creepy like that. A Canadian NEVER says sorry when it comes to poutine !!!!!!!!!!!

  19. I grew up in Saskatchewan and now live in Manitoba and we make the 7-up salad for Christmas every year! Definitely a thing in Canada on the prairies. The second you pulled out the lime Jello I was so excited for you two!! Ambrosia is another one that we make every year. Our ambrosia is pineapple, mandarin oranges, pasta or rice, cool whip, cream cheese, pudding. So delicious!

  20. Born and raised Midwesterner and I would rather eat poutine. Ive found no form jello salad that's not gross. 😂

  21. My family's Cool Whip & Jello salad is Orange Pudding salad. Orange jello, instant vanilla pudding, cool whip, and mandarin oranges. We're not lime or pistachio people so we skip those versions.

  22. Thats why the cheese should be frozen andd not cut to thin. Because it will run away and burn in the ofen 😅 I am so sorry that hapoen bc those roses work ❤

  23. My Favorites are Date Squares, Surprize cookies, Fry Pan Cookies and Peanut Butter balls. All Classics that my Nan used to make. So I make them now! Merry Christmas from New Brunswick <3

  24. My Mamaw made Watergate salad. But she'd leave the marshmallows out because a lot of us kids didn't care for them. I miss her all the time, but especially when I make her version of Watergate salad.

20 oz can of crushed pineapple in a bowl, mixed really well with one packet of Jello Pistachio pudding mix. Then fold in an 8 oz tub of Cool Whip. Pecans or walnuts optional, crush them teenie. And if you must, add in some mini marshmallows. Chill the mixture for a couple hours and it's like a fluffy pudding.

*Edit: i am pretty sure the recipe calls for maraschino cherries, but my Mamaw never put them in. Maybe she didn't like them. We make Mamaw's "green stuff" every year.

  25. Ooooouu could you time mark the videos? I've already watched it and now I'm having to scan through to find the recipe I wanted to try lol or maybe tag the recipes you use? I want to make the candy cane one and you didn't explain the cream cheese sugar mixture. How muchhhh of each? Does anyone know?

  26. My mom did a version of this no marshmallows or cool whip. It was lime Jello, sour cream, walnuts, crushed pineapple. Served cold and st in jello form. If there was a holiday. That damn thing was going to hit the table. 😂

  27. I didn’t know so many types of fruits come in a cane😂
And the US is the only place in the world were a recipe starts with a jello pack 🤦‍♀️

  28. My southern family does Watergate Salad. Pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple, marshmallows, cool whip, optional cherries and nuts…. no mayo, but my Mamaw did use cottage cheese in hers.
