Thank you for all of your amazing styling suggestions. You are helping me so much to level up my wardrobe and individual style. You have sooo many clothes. I try to be minimalist about it, otherwise I get overwhelmed and then don't wear anything! lol I wanted to ask you, did you recently marry? I don't remember your husband in your videos until recently? Sorry, I hope that's not too personal. Just love you! -From NYC
As a daily skirt/dress wearer, tights and tall boots are really important in my wardrobe for cold seasons. I match both to my skirt or dress color and I have them in all my neutral and basic wardrobe colors, not just black: different browns and taupes, ivory, navy, dark gray and even burgundy and khaki green, this season’s two biggest colors (but always in my wardrobe). This was very much a 90s thing, but goes back even to the 60s. I’m petite and wearing the same color from waist to toe gives me a longer-looking line. Hosiery have been a very underrated part of our wardrobes for the last two decades, I’m glad they’re “back in”. I never gave mine up, I dislike the feeling of bare toes in closed-toe shoes. Socks can be a fun accessory with trousers, too, as well as adding warmth and comfort. I don’t wear nude tights anymore though, I just go bare-legged if the weather allows it. Yes, my legs are pasty-white, but that’s fine, it’s my natural color. If I can find them, I wear stockings instead under my longer skirts and dresses, with thigh garters, they’re more comfy than tights.
Back-elastic is essential for me in skirts. My figure is so straight, I need it to keep skirts from down sliding off my skinny hips. I wish they would put it in all skirts and trousers, which can also slide off. Women with normal hip curves, and virtually all brands, don’t realize what a problem this can be – with no hip curves there is nothing to keep them up, unless the waistband will tighten when standing. I have had several fashion disasters and many near-disasters because of this, so I add a piece of elastic to the inside back waistband if it doesn’t come with it. I’m also constantly “de-hipping” clothes like dresses, I replace the hip bump-out curves, which make empty side flaps on me, with straight seams. This is why I avoid denim and any else with flat-felled seams, they are nearly impossible to alter. Thanks, dear Mom, for teaching me to sew and make my own alterations!
It's always great to keep some classic vintage style clothing in your closet. For the present show that I'm in, during tech week, I was told to wear black slacks, black blouse and black blazer to wear for the intro of the show. Though the blazer "shrunk a bit in the closet" :), I was complimented on my very polished look.
Annette here. Love your content! I love it when you take a basic piece (such as a skirt) and bring different items from your wardrobe to show how to dress it up or down while experimenting and talking through your thought process. Very practical and inspirational!❤
Pencil for me.
Sorry I missed the live. LOVE LOVE LOVE when you put outfits together in your studio!! 💖 My favorite skirt is the denim. I’ve had a few over the years, but none at the moment as I’m trying to shed some pounds. Thanks so much for all of your guidance. 💖
Marie-Anne, loved all your skirts and enjoyed this livestream! This is so timely as I've got a couple of new skirts recently, one pencil checked in neutral colours and the other A line pleated in grey, black and a bit of red. Merci for all your helpful advice 🙏🏻💜🎉
Also loved the outfit you were wearing. Your wide leg jeans and purple frilled blouse are beautiful. You look fabulous and love your personality 🥰💜
Love how you provide style advice with demos while answering questions. Your Goelia cardigan/jacket paired with your champagne A line skirt is absolutely gorgeous! Merci for such beautiful outfits and helpful tips 🤍🌟
I have several silky skirts. Beautiful!
And, yes, with a gray skirt, put a pretty color on the top! Love it with pink. 🌸
Thank you for skirt topic! I wear only skirts and dresses so your inspirations are very welcome😊 I wish more woman and more often wore skirts and dresses. It compliments us more and make me peronally feel more like a lady 😉
Thank you💕💕💕 this was a great live! I love it when you make outfits for us! It helps me get new ideas to shop my closet💋
Oh my goodness! Your first leather skirt is gorgeous!! I love skirts! I would put burgundy with it, right away! 😉 I would also love putting it with the neutrals that you showed! Obviously, my favourite kind of skirt is the pencil! Love this! Thank you, Marieanne! ❤ from Nova Scotia, Canada!
I love the look of the leather skirt with the tucked in sweater of similar color. ❤
Your a beautiful lady ,
Love watching and learning from you❤
No Crox No Sox!! Horrible
I love a wrap-around skirt. I have a small waist and fuller hips…so, this style fits me best than other styles.
I have a kilt that no longer fits, but I will try to have it altered.
Bonjour Marie Anne! I can’t wait for you to wear the sparkle skirt with the wool lady jacket. OMG, what a beautiful combination. I know you will look and feel like a princess!
Would you believe today I spent a couple of hours working with 3 satin skirts!!!! Well I’m loving them but a question. When pairing a skirt with a sweater ( a little fuller than cashmere) can you do a French tuck???
Great video and , love all the skirts and now I’m looking for a denim skirt❤️
I’m wondering do you shop for your husband ❤️
Hi Marrianne..hello from South Australia I'm 5' 2" .Biased cut skirts suit me most, however, the length is tricky.whats the best length I should have ??
Love the gray Goelia pencil skirt. ❤
I love skirts.
A few thoughts:
Beige skirt (the first skirt): try it was a burgundy cashmere sweater or burgundy blouse. Or olive green blouse with beige sweater over your shoulders.
I have entirely too much fun visualizing outfits.
Grey skirt: would again look lovely with a burgundy top. Here are my thoughts on grey and beige together. There are warm greys and cool greys. Beige works with warm greys. A cool grey needs a greige or cool oatmeal color. I would pair the grey skirt with a cool beige silk blouse under a burgundy sweater. Just a hint of beige as only the collar and cuffs would show. Oh, and pearl stud earrings.
I want to play stylist 😂.
I have always loved denim: mostly wear jeans but I do now have a long denim skirt which I intend to wear a lot this autumn & winter.
Talking keeps your facial muscles moving so that must be good for you. N’est-ce pas?
Marie-Anne, my favorite skirt is a pencil skirt, I have them in all my favorite colors (navy ,red, white, black, light tan) .I would wear the grey wool skirt with the white fluffy cardigan, they look so pretty together. That long pleated grey skirt will be a wow with snake skin boots which are black and white instead of your beige snake skin ones. The silky long black skirt with that nice top is definitely sexy and looks amazing. Marie-Anne, you are a sneaky tie 'stealer', naughty girl. Ha-ha!!! About hugging and going through hard times, I am one of those people who always hug. In my yoga class years ago, the first thing is I go and hug my yoga sisters and brothers and now we getting people there who come because they feel so welcome and our yoga community is warm and it feels like we are true friends. Couple of those older ladies, older than me and I'm 71, say that this is the only place they can have a hug. It brightens my day to be the one to give a hug to them. It is so important for us human beings, also complimenting on anybody's beautiful and chic outfit. Great video Marie-Anne. Love you💜💜💜💜
Oh, I liked the silk skirts! And I only have one summer one, light, short. Usually I wear some trousers/jeans.
I love skirts and wear them a lot I am 70 young I am told i do not look my age I am a free spirit and love boho, but I am not sure for my age if it is appropriate for me. Ms Marie-Anne I love watching you and thanks for the info I love pencil skirts but I am a plus size 2X so I do have some issues styling.
A-line and kilt-style skirts are my favourites; as a petite, knee-length or just below the knee work best. I've ventured more into trousers since watching your videos, Marie-Anne, although I always come running back to skirts!
If you are wearing the camel skirt at night with black shoes, what stockings or tights would you wear? None? Black?
Bonjour Marie-Anne, thank you for another thought provoking video about skirts and how to complete the outfit. I particularly like your new short video with your beautiful belted tweed jacket and black boots. You look fabulous.😊🤗🇳🇿sally
After not really being satisfied with how jean skirts look on me since reaching middle age, I finally found one that is dark wash, midi length and fluted hem that works very well. You are so right about the fluted hem for petite pair shapes! 😀 My husband even complimented me on it when I wore it the first time.
That shiny, long beige skirt with those sparkly sling-backs make a fantastic combination. And the skirt worn with the white cardigan is totally beautiful – quietly luxurious, even!
I love that denim skirt and in fact, I accidentally ended up with the same style from Mango – I think mine is a darker navy – when a recent search for a navy knee-length skirt was otherwise fruitless. I wear it all the time and I agree that it's as versatile as jeans. The difference, I feel, is that the skirt with its front pleat/opening/whatever it's called, is really rather elegant while jeans are, well, just jeans. I'm not a great fan of side-opening skirts but this one, for me, is a wow!
Unrelated to skirts. Is it acceptable for pants pocket to show below dress jackets? Thanks for in advance for sharing your expertise.
Nice except for the leather.
Thank you so much for showing us these pretty skirts, Sis! ♥
I like wearing long flared skirts, but find that they wrap around my legs when i walk or when it's windy. It's feels awkward and i think it spoils the look. A slip helps, but it's hard to find slips or half slips. What do you recommend for underpinnings under skirts or other tips to help the skirt hang and move well on you?
Hi great video what are your thoughts on plaid skirts and skirts with patterns. Still working corporate and conservative
Thank you. A lot of very good information. Fun to watch your thought process.
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I love long boots barely get to wear them here our winters are short I wore them in the USA and UK when I visited in winter was freezing for this Queensland Australian lady. That cream soft jacket is gorgeous. Another wonderful video xx
If you had only one to purchase would it be a black or grey pencil skirt?
I was wondering if you wear your husbands tie? If so, how do females wear a mans tie in a modern way that looks chic? Thanks.
