Hi KJ and Tony – Love the music by that statue! I enjoyed every minute of this video. The food looked amazing. Thank you.
What is your favorite restaurant in Paris?
Chez Denise .. my favorite. Tony Bourdain turned me on to it. Brush up on your French. Nice video. Merci. -Daniel (Paris)
Loved this video. I went to La Tour d'Argent many years ago with my ex-husband. Very very expensive. They were known for their pressed duck, their specialty. So when we went and ordered the pressed duck, they gave each of us a little card, telling us what number our duck was in the count of ducks served. Jeff and I thought about going to Ralph's when we were in Paris, for a while, last month. Somehow we got sidetracked. But we will try at least one of these next time. We're hoping to go back for New Years Eve. Also, I heard you mentioning tipping at these upscale restaurants. You are aware that the gratuity is always included in the cost of your check, aren't you? When we first moved to France, Jeff, who was always a generous tipper in the US, (even though he knew that the gratuities were included) was still dropping "nice" tips, here in Nice (and in Paris). One of the restaurant owners (he owns a very nice, chic, tiny place below our apartment) who has become a good friend of ours, told us very frankly it wasn't necessary to tip, and we should stop, every time Jeff left a big tip, anyway. In fact, he tried to give the money back to Jeff or me- and this was before we became friends. Other people, both French and Americans, who live here, have told us not to leave extravagant tips, particularly if you don'twant to be looked at as "tourists" and "fit in" with the French community. Apparently, even though servers will often accept the money as more of a "gift", in the French culture, it can be taken as an insult to the recipient when people leave big gratuities. A gratuity is not expected, even at the finest restaurants. French people have said when Americans leave tips like that it is, first, a very "touristy" thing to do and makes them look like they are "showing off" the fact that they have a lot of money. They suggested if we feel the meal and service was wonderful, just leaving 2-3 Euros on the table is more tasteful. The servers in France are paid living wages and have full benefits, unlike our servers in the US whose primary income is their tips. So, it was uncomfortable at first, but finally, Jeff stopped leaving very generous tips and started doing as the French do. Now we only leave something if the food and service were fabulous 👌 and no more than just a few euros. Maybe you already knew this. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you were not aware. All the best…❤
When tipping, bear in mind that whatever you hand over will most likely go into a common pot, the tips being shared out between the waiters, kitchen staff and sometimes even the owner will take a share. That may cool your ardour if you believe you are tipping the waiter alone. Not saying they all function this way, but many do.
Also, nothing against being friendly, au contraire! But if you keep the waiter at your table for too long, being friendly, he may get into trouble. "Le sens unique" is a term meaning one-way as in "one-way street", for example. It may be this named as it's a skinny place that you may have a tough time doing a U-turn, even on your feet!😅 Just in case you had "ris de veau" at La Procope, it's calf sweetbreads. The Quick is a burger chain. La belle frite is a play on words, *belge" being the French word for Belgian and Belgium having an excellent reputation for chips / French fries. 😉
It's not Saint Germaaahn
It's here for you

Cool video, I’ve been to Paris for only a couple weeks over 3 visits but my favorites were Bugon pigalle (without looking spelling up) and a few pizza places. lol, simple I know. We enjoyed French food too!
Can’t wait to go back and try some of these!
Have fun on your trip
La Tour d’Argent was the inspiration for the restaurant in Pixar’s Ratatouille. Enjoyed the video and can’t wait for your Paris adventure content.
Just yesterday I heard Le Procope had a fire in their kitchen. Not sure how much damage or how long they'll be closed.
All great restaurants…excellent info for anyone going to Paris for the first time! As usual, love the street musicians. Hate escargot…sorry. They belong where they were found…at the bottom of the sea. 😮 😊
Wow so beautiful place 🥰🙂♥️
Could not agree more with your Number One! I ADORE Le Procope… it literally has it all; history, ambiance, atmosphere, friendly service, location, and most of all? FOOD! Oh la la, glorious food! The escargot is scrumptious, the sole is sensational, honestly everything there is a treat. Even just a cocktail and appetizer in the bar is a memorable experience. So glad we're in agreement!
As of today however they are currently closed for some type of refurbishment? One can make a reservation beginning in December so I don't know if you'll be able to visit in November… I sincerely hope that you can!
