On the evening of 13th June 2024, Teja Spaces hosted a savory celebration of the elegance and sophistication of the best French wines. In collaboration with Le Decanter, through which partnership Teja offers exclusive offerings and benefits to its members, we convened an esteemed collection of members and friends of Teja to indulge in “The Art of French Wine.”
As dusk settled on prestigious Riverside Drive, guests ascended to our airy, green, highly curated coworking space, featuring meticulously designed private offices, modern meeting rooms, and elegant lounges adorned with beautiful African art and artifacts. Upon arrival, guests were presented with a crisp pink bubbly champagne, and the air was filled with wafts of pungent cheeses, smoky cured hams, and exotic dips assembled by delicatessen master, Queen Deli. The scene was set, with palates poised for a savory adventure.
Distinguished guests ranged from captains of industry to leading entrepreneurs, family offices, NGOs, and media personalities. Notable attendees included Anita Nderu and Anne Mwaura from Capital FM Kenya, the Google County Director, Cosmos Pharmaceuticals CEO, Haco Industries Kenya Limited CEO, the Former Chairperson of Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest), Instinct South Africa Founder/Managing Director, and representatives from the United Nations.
Teja Executive Director, Paul Kavuma, offered an inspiring explanation about the genesis of Teja. He explained that the name “Teja” was borne from the combination of Swahili words “Tija,” meaning ‘productivity,’ with “Mteja,” meaning ‘customer,’ each being at the heart of Teja’s mission. He shared his journey as a pioneer in the development of private equity investing in East Africa and his passion for backing and supporting founders and entrepreneurs to build and scale their enterprises. Teja was established to offer a world-class, creative workspace solution offering collaboration and networking opportunities to enable innovative, emerging entrepreneurs to focus resources on core business and unleash their full growth potential. His words resonated with guests, reinforcing the values of innovation and partnership that define Teja.
Julie Smith then shared her journey and her family’s history as the owner of a beautiful wine estate in France, which inspired her to establish Le Decanter in 2013 to bring her joy and love of gorgeous French wines to Kenya. Seasoned sommelier Kevin Obulemire then guided guests through the wine-tasting excursion, from citrusy, fruity whites to aromatic, sultry reds, showcasing the rich heritage of France. He provided insights on the origin of grapes, colors and flavors, body and finish, and the “nose” of an exquisite selection of wines.
With libations flowing generously and rhythmic beats playing in the background, energy, engagement, and networking elevated through the evening. Particular thanks to Le Decanter, who we wish well with its two new market cellars recently established at Artcaffe Coffee and Bakery at Rhapta Road and Sarit Centre, with another outlet opening soon at Junction Mall.
