The StoryThe Antoine Delaune Beaujolais Villages 2018 is a $6.99 ALDI import exclusive. ALDI (both ALDI North Trader Joe’s in America and ALDI South) is a German company with stores thru out Europe the US and Australia and has over 10,000 stores which give them tremendous buying power. In Europe, Great Britain, and Ireland they are the bang for the buck wine shop. Their wines are consistent award winners and they have contacts with quality European wine producers. With over ten thousand stores ALDI can move a great deal of wine.I have had good luck with ALDI’s American wines, but I always keep my eyes open for interesting well-priced European wines. With ALDI’s buying power it has a good chance of being pretty good and pretty cheap. And Beaujolais is just the place for for a bargain.Beaujolais is the French wine district just south of Burgundy, to the north of Burgundy is Champagne. Beaujolais has some pretty pricey neighbors and its wine can get overlooked.Beaujolais does the Gamay grape, which is a grape that always reminds me of Pinot Noir. Since it is known for one thing, it is much easier to figure out than most French growing regions.First, there is Beaujolais Nouveau, a portion of the grape harvest is set aside for this extremely young wine. On the 3rd Thursday in November (kind of sounds like our Thanksgiving), the wine is released for sale and the whole region throws a major party. The day of the party is set by law so if the harvest is early or late, it does not matter, the wine gets released ready or not. Then there is just Beaujolais wine, which is a wine from any part of the growing region after that is Beaujolais Villages. That is gravers taken from what is deemed to be the 38 best villages for growing Gamay grapes. Then there are Cru wines that come from the ten best villages. It is fairly simple for wine, which tends to be overly complicated for seemingly no reason. Also since its neighbors to the north get all the press and all the high-rollers Beaujolais is well-priced. All but the highest-end Cru wines can be found for under $25 or $30 dollars with most of the wines being under twenty bucks. This region has had vineyards since the Romans came to stay a long long time ago. So, Beaujolais is a well-respected growing region, that only has to get one thing right (the Gamay grape), has affordable wine, and knows how to throw a party.Antoine Delaune Beaujolais Villages 2018 Tasting NotesThe color is a garnet red, not unlike Pinot Noir, but darker and less see-thru. The nose is raspberry, pepper, and spice, a little herb, a touch of crushed autumn leaves, spearmint, and cherry. This is a well-balanced wine, with a nice mix of smooth and slightly rough flavors. It tastes of sweet black cherry, red cough drops, sharp spice, and soft plum. The mid-palate adds cranberry, strawberry (not too sweet), and a light, soft brush lightly rough tannins. The acidity is fine, it lets the flavors unfold and does not get in the way.The Summary* The Antoine Delaune Beaujolais Villages 2018 is a very solid $6.99 wine, it drinks well, I have no issues with it.* If you are interested in the wines of Beaujolais this is a pretty good place to start your journey.* Sometimes when you go too cheap on a wine it isn’t very representative of the other wines of the region.

hey this is Dave again from chep winf
finder.com for another uh Companion
podcast for a wine review uh we just put
on the cheap winf finder.com website
which is what we do um we write about
wines and write about wines that are
affordable and good to drink and what we
have here is a wine from Aldi um my
neighborhood had some um I’m saying um a
lot but my neighborhood had had some
looting uh we we had some people
marching and chanting and you know no
justice no peace that type of thing but
that wasn’t the problem people actually
knocked over a few liquor stores I mean
which is another story alog together so
I you know I’ve been kind of stuck with
um luckily in my neighborhood Aldi and
Trader Joe’s are in an old Warehouse
that are kind of hard to get to and they
were fine so I have today an Aldi wine
of
699 and the name is Antoine Dain bile
Villages
2018 and I was actually kind of excited
to see this I mean you know excited as I
get about these things because
Aldi in Europe and and you know the
story there’s Aldi North Aldi South Aldi
Nord came to the United States and
bought bought out Trader Joe’s and now
Aldi North is uh from Germany is Trader
Joe’s and ALDI South is Aldi and they
used to be together and in Europe and
places like Australia too um and Great
Britain and
Ireland they have over 10,000 stores all
together and they’re the bang for the
buck wine shops if you want uh everyday
drink it now wine you go to ALDI and
they’re constantly winning Awards and
they actually have
their pick of some of the best producers
who making inexpensive wines and you
know and if you got 10,000 stores you
can sell to people going to want you to
take their wines and you can work out
deals to get cheaper wines because if
you do it in bulk the price comes down
so we have abou
Villages and it’s not bad at all it’s
pretty good for
$6.99 um usually $699 wies used to be
terrible when I first started the wh 11
years ago it’s like Oh no I got to drink
this now nowadays I’m pretty happy with
$699 wines it’s the second $699 wine
I’ve add in a week that tasted pretty
good I’m going to take a sip cuz I think
this is one of those wines that I’m
going to be sipping all the way through
cuz it’s it’s pretty
good I like bouet cuz it’s one of the
simplest French wine regions to get your
head around it’s on the it’s located in
the same
series of rivers that burgundy and uh
and just just just north of bay is
burgundy uh and just north of burgundy
is champagne and those two areas they
are big on Pino Noir and charday with a
few other things thrown in and to the
South there little um balet and they do
the G grape which always reminds me of
being a Noir even though it isn’t and um
all the press and the High Roller
go to burgundy and champagne I mean
there’s two and $3,000 bottles of Peno
noires and what have you in um in in
burgundy and you you know champagne
prices can get crazy in a hurry I mean
you got to spend 30 to 40 bucks just to
get in the door and most of these wines
and the and bouet which doesn’t have all
the fancy going on is Affordable like
most of the wines are under 20 even The
Crew wines are usually under 30 you can
go higher you can get expensive wines
there but the bulk of the wines are all
very affordable they only do one thing
they do the G grape um it goes by
Villages I mean just you see just see
bouet on the bottle that means it’s from
anywhere the The Vineyards anywhere in
the boundaries and there’s like 38
Villages that are said to be the best in
like most things there The Vineyards are
on hillsides near a river that’s just
where Vineyard like to be and there’s 38
Villages where they said that’s the best
place for these Vineyards to be and
that’s where you get uh bay Villages
this is a bay Villages this is a step up
from the base Bay and then there’s 10
Villages that are Crew wines and you can
put that on the label what what that
Village is and there more spenil but
even then you can get you know Crew
wines you know sometimes for under 20
bucks though you know certain people do
charge more and it’s all gim and it’s
all I mean it’s all easy to get your get
your head around if you really want to
explore a wine region and kind of kind
of know all there is and know and taste
all there is this is a good one to go oh
yeah I do figure out G oh you got to you
know you then you try to try the
villages wines you try different
producers you try different you know
crew uh single single Village wies and
you pretty much got it made you can
knock this off in a in a year and a half
two years if that’s what you want to do
and it’s all affordable it’s all really
good and so Bay is cool it’s easy like
you know most places it’s you know this
is the rule except for this this and
this now B it’s just gam May another
thing is they know how to party um if
you know B Novo uh that’s that is very
very young wine it’s on the third
Thursday of every November I think which
kind of sounds like isn’t that the same
thing no uh Thanksgiving is or something
I forget exactly cuz they just tell me
when to show up to eat I don’t actually
know what day it is I just know it’s
Thursday and there’s turkey U but they
have a party and it’s and that date is
government mandated and it doesn’t
matter when the Harvest is you know if
the Harvest is early well then they have
plenty of time to ferment the juice
because they they put set aside you know
certain amount of it just to have this
party and if it’s late well then they
got to do what they got to do and the
third Thursday of November they released
the wine however old it is and sometimes
it’s very young sometimes it’s a few
weeks older and they throw down a party
in the in um in balet
and from all I’ve never been to it but
it’s supposed to be a bash so I’m going
to take another sip cuz you know these
people make inexpensive wines that are
really good they’ve been making growing
grapes here since the Roman times and
they know how to party
[Music]
what’s there not to like and you know
I’m a I’m a big fan of P Noir and you
know inexpensive P Noir from California
has gotten really good recently much
better than it used to be and one of the
reasons why is they started taking the
uh production techniques from Bay so you
know you can thank vet uh wine makers
for having better Pina Noir an expensive
P Noir from California so that’s it for
me I like Bay Bay is a great place to
you know to explore to find wines it’s
everywhere there’s a couple of big
importers who bring in really good wine
um even though sometimes you can you can
find it in every wine shop sometimes in
you know some better uh grocery stores I
mean it’s everywhere and what they bring
in is pretty good quality stuff I mean
it’s a wine that you can get
at a good price in a lot of locations
it’s something you can find if you want
to find the greatest saon B Valley it’s
a little bit harder there’s not just one
wine or two or three guys bringing great
stuff it’s out there but you got to
figure out where it is bouay a little
easier to find and it’s a little easier
to get your head behind and it’s easy to
drink you know if you like pan Noir
you’re going to like this and you like
to explore wines it’s a great place to
explore so that’s it for me uh keep it
cheap this is Dave over and out and I’ll
be talking to you before too long
bye-bye
