welcome welcome my name is Kelly dhy and
you are listening to the drink a little
podcast where we talk about exploring
the world of wine and spirits while not
letting it take over your life I am a
joyful child of God and a certified life
coach I’m also a wine educator and Wine
and Spirits brand designer I’ll show you
how you can navigate your relationship
with alcohol and how that mindset spills
over into the rest of your life we’ll
learn about the world of wine and
Spirits together all while bolstering
your confidence that you can have
boundaries around alcohol and live your
most amazing life this is episode number
38 and we’re calling it pet projects
that is because it is about a petnat
wine and how this works is at the top of
the show we taste a little wine and see
where something about that wine the
character of the wine or the name of the
wine in the story leads us into a
coaching conversation about not over
drinking but living our most balanced
and fruitful lives now petnat the name
of this wine is also the name of style
of wine it’s short for petent natural
and I’m sure I’m butchering that
pronunciation I apologize but all that
is saying is that petent means a little
bit of natural bubbles a natural
sparkling and they are made in a way
that actually pre dates the traditional
method of making champagne and sparkling
wines champagne producers create a
secondary fermentation that is making
the bubbles inside of the bottle and
pedant is a bottling is bottling the
wine before that initial fermentation is
done so there’s a soft little bit of
fizziness and not actually a secondary
fermentation there are some benefits to
that it’s naturally low in Sugar wine
and sometimes lightly sweet so a great
balance and often that means there’s a
little yeast that that didn’t get used
in the fermentation so it might be in
the bottle so you can find petnat wines
where there might be a little something
floating in there a little Haze but
that’s still perfectly fine to drink and
so it’s kind of a different um Outlook
than your classic it needs to be crystal
clear so it says pet
maybe there’s a little bit of funky
maybe that was the intention so give it
a try and see if you like it and these
are actually usually topped as this one
is with um a crown cap just like you
would have for a beer so instead of a
cork they’re just got a little crown cap
that keeps those bubbles in there very
different than the other sparkling wines
we’ve had on this podcast that have
those big fat corks in order to hold in
the pressure so what I do love about
this is it’s casual it’s
approachable this one is um easy to open
no cork screw and this one is actually
called petnat Time
Warp this does not have any um Haze or
sediment if you’re looking at the video
that any Haze that you see is just
condensation from I just pulled it out
of the fridge but I would again not
worry about it if it has a little bit of
a haze this one’s got a funky label and
so it kind of looks like a 1980s neon
Durand Duran album cover you know it’s
that that bright coloring and that same
cover style this is actually a French
wine but it’s not appaled which means it
doesn’t have a specific place other than
France so it can be a blend of multiple
locations from throughout France and I
think this is just a fun and funky wine
that should be easy to drink and not too
comt at so I haven’t even opened it and
we’ll just take our cork screw that has
a little uh beer can opener on it and
see what happens right in front of my
computer I’m trying to do it delicately
sorry for the pause there I’m trying to
do it delicately just in case it went
towards my keyboard it did not it was
just a slight Fizz at the top and we we
will I’m putting it in a sparkling
glass just to kind of look at the beauty
of
those those little
Bubbles and I can tell right away I
haven’t even put my nose up to it it’s
very pronounced um Rose and peachy
Aromas I kind of get a little Clementine
once I get my nose involved
there I’m going to give it a
sip Super Fresh once you taste it it
really moves towards a raspberry a
little grapefruit great acidity you’ll
feel that in your upper um cheek going
towards your ear and it’s slightly sweet
and that makes sense because it was
bottled during the fermentation so it
didn’t did not get a chance to ferment
to completely dry so a little bit of
sweetness
the other fun thing about this wine is
it’s not high in alcohol so for those of
us who are trying to drink a little this
is actually
99.5% alcohol yay it’s a really nice
break from some of the wines that that
we love here but um those wines are
typically ranging from 12 to 14% so this
is a very refreshing amount of alcohol
and it’s a refreshing taste for
spring yeah I would definitely drink
this through summer it’s fun it’s fresh
it’s light and I love the name the name
Time
Warp um which makes sense with my Duran
Duran comment back there and some of us
are stuck in the 80s you know who you
are um some are stuck in the 90s the
2000s the 201s whatever we’re calling
those but most of us are cruising along
here in
2024 pretty much up to date but some of
our brain our emotion might get stuck in
another decade stuck in a Time Warp and
I’m going to take a quick turn from
Duran Duran to Randy Travis and we’re
going to talk about his song 1982 I
don’t know if you’ve ever heard this but
it’s a beautiful song and this is a a
Shameless plug for Randy an amazing
amazing human and if you are on the
Amazon pick up his book I am actually in
his book called for never and ever amen
so I’m in there as a um story and a
photographer so pick that up and listen
to his song
1982 it’s not the happiest song in the
lyrics he is asking the operator to
connect him with 1982 he wants to go
back he’s got apolog he’s got apologies
because hindsight is
2020 isn’t it though if we look back to
whatever your year version of is of 1982
is it might be last year um but the year
in the past where maybe you’ve been hurt
and you got a little stuck with your
emotions there maybe you’ve hurt someone
and got stuck in those emotions in that
time or we just miss people and
sometimes that time gets frozen for us
so notice if most of you is in
2024 and where are you in a Time Warp
that’s holding you back I literally had
to look up what a Time Warp was just out
of curiosity I was guessing when I first
started writing this episode but here is
what the Google says it says it’s an
imaginary spatial Distortion that allows
time travel sounds fascinating right or
hypothetical time dilation or
contraction okay I would never have used
any of those words but it makes sense a
spatial Distortion of time makes sense
some of us are doing that and it’s kind
of hard nowadays to keep things up
things are moving a little bit fast
we’re all in a little bit of a Time Warp
but um I think it’s fine if you’re stuck
in the past as far as clothing furniture
or you can’t keep up with that like uh
next app or next thing that’s coming up
you know who really cares but what about
stuck in the past in your mind in ways
that don’t help you or even hurt you
over the long
term and the thing that’s helped me the
most is knowing that we are truly all
responsible for the era that we’re
living in for the time we’re living in
and once you take full responsibility
for every aspect of your life it’s so
freeing and it doesn’t mean that you’re
responsible for those things outside of
you it means we can be fully responsible
within ourselves to create forward
movement to create love create solutions
to create our future and once we’re in
that forward movement then we have that
space to look outside of ourselves um
it’s when we haven’t done that inner
work and then we’re trying to fix
everything and everybody else around us
that problems crop up a lot so because
all of our past decisions have created
where we are today and that’s a really
sobering thought for a lot of people
that we are responsible for where we are
and that sobering thought some people
like to drink that thought away and I
like to pretend I’m on the time warp
where I can pick and choose when to
focus on riding that time warp mostly
into the future literally thinking about
it and visualizing it feeling what that
future time would feel like at the same
time we can’t project only Perfection
and goodness in this future time warp
that’s that’s not really realis istic um
and some of us are trying to like think
everything’s going to be perfect then
but we’re projecting all this negativity
right now and onto the past so I say
dream about that future feel what it’s
going to feel like and know that you’re
not in the wrong place today things are
still going to be challenging and things
will still be sad when we get to that
future so plan for that don’t plan for
the Perfection because things will still
be amazing then too and it’s all a
balance so I don’t know why our natural
inclination is to just think I’m going
to change this and things are going to
be amazing so I want you to just be in
reality and like I’m going to change
this because I’m ready for the next
flavor of challenge the next flavor of
amazing and writing my own time warp
appreciating today that we have the
ability to live in the now and think
about the
future but let me know if any of those
things are dragging you down holding you
in 1982 19 um I don’t know what
1999 um and if you’re listening to this
right now I want you to think about
right now you’re not in the future and
you’re not in the past you’re sitting
here listening nothing’s wrong at this
moment you you might be in traffic but
technically nothing’s wrong you might
have had a fight with your partner last
night but I’m thinking if you’re
listening to this that’s not happening
right
now so appreciate the now ride the time
warp into the future when you can not
jumping off not getting stuck but
sticking with yourself through those
changes I love it and try a
petnat this is something that is very
um it’s very prized and people are
writing about it I think there’s more
people writing about it than sales so go
out and try one and uh contribute let me
know what you think it tastes like
that’s what I have for you this week my
friends next week we will be tasting a
Stags Leap soan Blanc it’s actually a
2018 that was gifted to me by marnell
duret and I am excited to dive into this
iconic and somewhat controversial wine

regrets I would love to be in there with
