Lol petit peu…then a whole stanza😅
Welcome to Europe 😂 none of us speaks any English at all, that’s at least what we will tell you, in English, and also better than you ever could lol
Also, words like "depict" are taught to us in high school, so we learn how to describes paintings, movie posters, and stuff like that. We learn how to say it in different languages, like English, Spanish, German, even Italian. Those are the most taught languages in school, but we only have to learn two of them.
Therefore, someone who hasn't spoke English since high school could remember those words, without think they speak English well
If a person did that it could have been the person didn't understand what you wanted and once they did because you said it in french language they were able to repeat something they had memorized or if not memorized just said a bunch of times
It’s a shit test to see if you’ll bother trying to speak in French. Also an American who knows 10 words will say I speak a bit of French while a European won’t say they speak a language unless they’re pretty much fluent
It’s only because we are not fluent and French people are often mean to each other went they talk in another language… If u don’t have a perfect English accent they make fun of it and “taunt” u by saying things like “You think you’re smart?!” “Who do you think you are?!” “That’s so bad just… shut up” ect… It’s mostly done in high school but it can break your confidence in yourself… 😅
Schools teach formal language (since casual language changes between even small communities, so formal language is just more versatile)
I totally get what the french person is saying tho, even if i can hold a conversation in spanish i don’t think ill ever consider myself fluent or remotely good 😂
I've seen the same thing in more european countries, like Germany or Russia, they're very humble when it comes to the languages they know. Also it's pretty common to have bilingual/trilingual people out here
especially if you are canadian and speaking to someone from quebec who doesn’t rlly speak english and you don’t rlly speak french, im like uhhh umm trying to remember anything i’ve learned in school and they are literally like my english is so bad and then it’s literally like this video 😂
"my english is so bad"
Proceeds to have better english than many native english speakers
🤣
They better say their English is bad because they are absolute jerks to people trying to speak French if they can't speak perfectly. I wish I had taken Spanish instead because if you can't immediately speak perfect French without even an accent, no one will even let you try.
wow so interesting to hear that story, germans are the same, they will say they don´t speak english or just a little and will be pretty good actually. maybe not the level like hear, but absolutely able to do a conversation. Germans are just afraid to do a mistake, so they rather don´t speak at all.
I remember in the 90’s I went to Paris on a high school field trip and asked if the cashier behind the counter at Mcdonalds spoke English.
Me: par lee voo ang glay? Si bu play? 🥹
Paris guy: Yeeez!! Dis is Mak Donaalll(silent D), Le stupid Americaaaan!! 😩
Me: 😳 … oh excuse me then! let me get some FRENCH FRIES then mf!
When you have a certain speech it just becomes ingrained lol thays how I feel about a game called free bet blackjack. But at the same time I feel like I’m not even speaking English the way these people follow up with “what???” So frustrating
“Did she just say depicts?” 🤣😭🙏🏻😂
Never saw a french person who can speak english. And im in france every summer
Your English [as a second language] feels so much worse because of the pronounciation. How could I say I can speak English if I freeze and stutter before half of the "th" sounds?
Swedes are sometimes like this too.
As i continue to watch your vides my hate for the french only grows stronger
how do you not know depicts 💀
The French are my least favorite Western people.
French false modesty is wild.
Some words that are considered sophisticated or used more in high society in English are from French language brought by Normans. I think it's the same reason we keep cows but eat beef.
Hmm… Maybe i dont actually speak English
That’s why they think you’re an idiot when you speak French. They’re unreasonable hard on themselves, so they pass that self-hazing on to others.
Sorry, but I have never heard a French saying they do not do something well, ever and even more rare, apologizing.
Maybe they start to speak a little English when they hear foreigners “destroying” their language with their accent.
As an icelander who learned english from the tv at very young, many americans are not the best at english for it to be their 1st language (not saying im the best but yk)
Americans usually think being able to say four sentences in another language is knowing a language, in the rest of the world to know other languages means to be fluent.
Props to her for learning that whole line about the painting
My German exchange student visited during my first year of German class. He kept demanding that I speak some German to him. Finally, I did my best. He paused, looked at me and said “you need to work more on your German.” 🤦🏼♀️ I KNOW!!! But you were badgering me and I TOLD you I wasn’t very good at it!!!😅
I guess being fluent in france is knowing the whole dictionary ✋😭💀💀💀
proper preposition use always gives it away for me – someone who is fluent or close to fluid will always use the right prepositions: "in this style, of this time", etc
They pretend they don't speak enish until they hear us try french. Then they'll leap to English tk get you to stop talking since they're so stuck up
