Down in the French Quarter of Port Orleans French Quarter you will find sassa Gula float works and food factory if there’s one more F added on there I don’t think I’m going to be able to say it but I’m going to do my best hello everyone out there I am creel Craig and

Today I am joined alongside by Riverboat Rhino and hurricane Hannah and we are eating as I already said at sassagoula the quick service restaurant here at Port Orleans French Quarter and uh yeah I’m excited it’s been a while since I’ve been over here to uh eat at this quick service but I feel

Like it’s never really let me down too much I’ll have to see if it’s uh still as uh as bright of a star as it used to be in my mind like the the star that Tiana wishes upon at the beginning of Princess and the Frog and see how many

References I can throw in here to everything I know about New Orleans but before I come up with more I just want to remind you this is brought to you by dreams unlimited track travel if you like our content you want to support us book of vacation three dreams unlimited

My entree here I went with the jumbalaya $ 12249 chicken and ouy sausage with vegetables cooked in a rich spicy sauce with rice is how it is described on the menu it is served in kind of a low cut mediumsized Bowl I would say um you know

When it came out it looked very much to me like I had a roommate who used to make jumbalaya who I believe was that from that area of the world um um and it looked like that it was kind of you know it’s that that Rice with that sticky

Like kind of red sauce in there um I could see the sausage and the chicken so that made me happy and it came with a big old square of cornbread on it too but I’m a couple bites in and uh I would definitely say it’s leaning more toward

The rich than the capital S the what’s funny is on the menu if you’re reading it for some reason spicy sauce and rice are all capitalized nope every other word nope I don’t know who wrote this menu the word chicken capitalized and dewy sausage vegetables spicy sauce rice

Are all capitalized but no other words on here I don’t that’s fine we’re not here for grammar we’re here for food for my meal I had the shrimp and grits which is priced at 1529 it is shrimp grits smam vegetables and cream sauce and my first impression

First was that they did sauté the shrimp and the vegetabl Fresh So my entree took a little bit longer but I appreciate the extra care especially at a quick service and the portion is huge um this is I came into this very hungry and I’m going

To have a hard time eating this meal other than that the presentation is it kind of looks like swop is what we keep referring to it as um that cream sauce it mentions kind of just takes over the whole dish so it’s you know you don’t

Really see the layers you don’t see the grids you don’t it’s kind of even hard to tell that there’s shrimp in there um I have taken a couple bites and I was surprised by the flavor while it’s not what I would typically think of as shrimp and grits it’s a chilly day today

And there’s definitely some good flavor there I did add hot sauce I will say though really quick shout out we’re supposed to be a Louisiana restaurant and this is not that so I would have appreciated some Crystal hot sauce or some Louisiana but I’m still eating it

I’m still enjoying it so um yeah I’m going to keep eating it but so far so good I’m happy I chose the Baton Rouge burger for my entree it is $13.99 and it is a burger with fried green tomatoes pimento cheese and bacon on a toasted Brio bun served

With french fries and I believe Rhino and I had this years ago uh last time we were here and uh I remember really enjoying it so I wanted to see if it held up and just looking at it I’m uh I’m think it’s something’s a little off

With it because while you know pimento cheese could be possibly like melting this looks like maybe they threw some pimentos on it and then also just a slice of cheddar cheese that was very melty maybe even American I think cheddar though but and I I took a couple

Bites and I you know it does have that cheddar flavor but it does not feel like it’s pimento cheese pimento cheese should should hold the shape a just a little bit long longer this didn’t at all but you know what maybe it’s just not a quality pimento cheese on there

Fried Green Tomatoes uh are kind of getting lost in here and then they don’t advertise it as part of the menu uh but it’s also served with a lettuce tomato and then like an ioli on the bottom it might just you know it it just might be

A typo on the menu or something I’m not I’m not sure regardless uh the ioli the sauce on there I feel like you know that’s where a lot of the flavor is coming from the tomato and lettuce just they don’t need to be on here at all and

It just kind of makes everything a little extra wet uh and yeah I like I like the bacon with it because I like a good pimento cheese and bacon sandwich that’s like That’s a classic and um bacon pimento cheese and fried green tomato sorry I’m losing my thoughts in

All of this and then I’m happy to report that while the burger is overcooked it actually feels better than a standard uh standard Disney Quick Service Burger so for my my first couple bites the first half I’m actually pretty impressed and then the fries you know it’s your

Standard Disney Quicks service fries but they give you a lot I think I’m going to take some of the gumbo throw it on make my uh my poor man’s poutine as Rhino would probably call it he’d probably say something else that’s a lot more offensive so I’ll at least be polite

Here but I have a little bit more eating to do and uh we’ll check back in we also got a plate of Gumbo for the table one does uh this is $10.99 it is described as a rich stew with chicken sausage okra and spices served with rice it is also

Served in one of those medium low cut plates and I would say in far as in terms of portion sizes for the the three dishes I’d say they’re all pretty on par with each other it’s a pretty full helping of the dish um but uh a couple

Bites in uh I feel like this one actually has more spice than my dish which is to say gumbo because I’m realizing not everyone is here when I’m looking down saying this one so um yeah I I feel like um you know honestly looking at the prices and stuff like

That cuz I only just doing that for this part of our our recording right now is that the prices are pretty decent now how I’m going to feel after I’m done eating that is a different story all right so we also got a sharable dessert cuz treat yourself today and we chose

The martyo king cake which is uh $529 $529 and you know when in room why why wouldn’t we king cake even in Louisiana Mississippi Alabama wherever it varies they’re not all the same some have filling some are more of that like cinnamon roll kind of consistency um you know there’s like

Many different bakeries that have them anyways I generally love king cake and I’m sad cuz I realized this is my first and maybe my only king cake that this year and let me tell you not not a good choice it looks like kind of like a bunk cake but then

In further inspecting it it’s kind of like I think they just took like a pre-made cinnamon roll shoved it into bunk cake like mini pan and then cooked it for about oh I don’t know 2 days and then sprinkled icing on top the icing was pretty I guess it was Marty colors

Um it was terrible it was absolutely horrific and it makes me sad because a lot of people from Louisiana Mississippi come and stay at this Resort you know they know it they love it uh Marty gar next week and I’m like I think they would know better than to order it just

By looking at it but that would just be like if you’ve had good king cake that would be especially offensive and also it’s sad if you’ve never had good king cake this would absolutely ruin it for you um it was just very very dry very stale it was just a cinnamon roll that’s

All it was um it did have a ton of the cinnamon which we kind of talked about some people loved it I thought it was okay but it also felt unintentional like it was it was just an unusual amount of cinnamon like what happened here was

This on purpose was it an accident so I would absolutely not get that again I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone king cake aside it was a terrible cinnamon roll so even if you’re looking at from that Viewpoint just don’t don’t dang Do It um for my meal the shrimp and grits

Is what I had I thought the value on that was fantastic was right around $15 which I mean it’s kind of standard Disney Quick Service prices now like I feel like you know everything is $12 plus and I didn’t even eat all of it and

I was very hungry so I was surprised by that um so I thought the portion size was good they made it fresh which was awesome unfortunately because it was kind of as I mentioned slopped together it was really hard to just get a scoop

Of the grits which I want to do cuz I’m kind of picky about grits um I think you guys know that about me now cuz we’ve talked about the steakhous 71 grits they’re delicious um I think these might have been okay grits again hard to say

But they had more of that stone ground corser texture uh also seem like they might have been made with heavy cream which is um a must I would say so not too shabby but again everything else kind of overpowered it the cream sauce that was with it I don’t quite

Understand cuz that’s not typically how I make shrimping grits or have them it was not that it tastes this way but it tastes almost like a okay so it tasted more like a bisque maybe um and it kind of resembled or had the texture of like

An alfredo sauce and there was just a lot of it so if like cream based stuff doesn’t do it for you like I would maybe avoid that one um I add hot sauce to it and um I think it did kind of need a little extra kick but otherwise like

Flavor wasn’t bad like it had peppers onions it had green onions um it had little pieces of smoked ham in it um decent amount of shrimp and the shrimp seem to be fresh I mean who knows where they came from or if they were frozen or whatever but they were you know decent

Siz the texture was good um so yeah actually I think so here’s the thing like this is not authentic food if you’ve had good cun food this is going to be like but I think for Quick Service of Disney this is awesome it’s different menu items but you can also get

Cheeseburgers here I’m looking they have like rotisserie chicken and salmon so it’s a little bit more of an elevated menu um and too like eating here we’re eating here with like real plates or well they’re plastic but you know they look nice and real silverware so I think

Um that’s really nice uh for here and then yeah I don’t know I I wasn’t disappointed by anything I thought the um gumbo was pretty good it was a chicken and sausage gumbo flavor wasn’t quite right like I’m sure they’re not like I don’t know like actively making a

R back there I’m not sure but it was good the spice level was pretty good um so yeah and I thought that was a good value as well um Pro tip for you guys I’m just going to plug if you guys like Cajun food or you’re curious about Cajun

Food there’s a guy on um YouTube it’s name is Cajun ninja and is like the best recipes for cjun food you’ll ever find so go check him out um he’s a Disney fan as well but like those are all the best recipes I’m just going to say it I said

It so cheers y all all right so the end of the meal here we are um I felt like my jumbalaya in the end was just kind of like it wasn’t like everything was cooked well in it like the meat the rice all of that I just for me it was

Definitely way sweeter than I wanted it to be I think um when I think of jumo I think of spice and I I feel like was missing sort of that Creole spice that I like um and um but I did like the gumbo which was the thing I was like no I

Don’t want the gumbo so I thought that was pretty decent also I believe the gumbo was like the $199 range of a a dish so I thought that was a good value um so price-wise this restaurant I feel like has some pretty decent Siz portions

With the options and I try to bite of Hannah’s shrimp and grits and as I’ve said on this podcast before I am I’m from Massachusetts I did not grow up having grits not to say that they on’t grits in Massachusetts but um so I never know like how they’re supposed to taste

What the you know consistency is texture or anything like that but her dish was like for me it was only like it was okay it didn’t really have a it wasn’t packed with a lot of flavor I guess I just think of and again no expert here but

When I think of like New Orleans and that Louisiana like style food I think of like it being a very powerfully flavorful place and I don’t know that I got that from here but with that said I don’t also think it was necessarily anything was like bad that I tried

Except for Our Friend the King cake the butt looking king cake that was a bu cake I don’t know what it was but the outside of it that thing tasted like somebody had cooked it then sat it on the roof of a Florida car for about a

Week and a half and then brought it inside and yes it was packed with cinnamon on the inside and I am one of those people who I can ever have enough cinnamon I love cinnamon um but the outside of that thing my dogs have had

Chew toys that have put up less of a fight than this thing did I honestly if we weren’t doing it for a review and I had taken that bite of it I would have walked back up there and I’m not one of those people but I would have walked up

And been like no thank you can I return this and could you stop selling it to guests because this is one of the worst desserts and food items I think I’ve had on Disney property so it’s not worth your money don’t get it um but uh what’s

Nice about this float Works F food factory here is um there are a lot of options which I which I think is nice um for um a resort like there’s you know there’s Burgers there’s Pizza there is you know there’s there was salmon up

There there was um uh there was uh I was specifically instructed that I was not allowed to get the Korean uh barbecue impossible Burger whatever uh or it was I think it was a bond me Burger but I maybe would come back for that so I liked it enough that I would say

Something like that but nothing I had today really just like blew me away but again nothing was bad so it was very middle of the road for me all across the board pricing and all that so yeah I don’t know this isn’t I don’t mean it a

Rude way I just I’ve never stayed at this Resort it’s not my favorite resort to come to I don’t I don’t know why um it’s just maybe because I’ve only ever dined in here in this in this dining establishment but I don’t have any like Memories or anything like that with it

So it’s all very like me I have so many sentimental memories of this Resort this was the first Walt Disney World hotel that I ever stayed at I can remember just going down the slide at the pool over and over again taking pictures with all the Gators outside I I remember

Eating in here and feeling like it was the biggest thing in the world and all the oversized props that are up on the walls like I felt like they were just Larger than Life but I guess that’s Disney through a kid’s eyes I I can also remember back when they used to have

Milk as an option like where you get your sodas and stuff you could just get milk like that needs to come back milk on demand that’s what I want uh but yeah I still after all these years this this quick service restaurant feels so much

Like it did on my first trip here yeah they’ve added like touches to Princess and the Frog uh putting Tiana and nine on some of the cards and Dr facilier and I like that they kept they kept up with the times and I think that’s that’s

Really important and as for the food I don’t remember what I would eat here when I came as a kid but I do know what I ate here today and yeah I’m kind of middle of the road just like Rhino and Hannah were uh my burger I thought was

Actually well prepared it just it was lacking that punch uh you know the the fried green tomato just continued to get lost in there it just felt like uh it felt like a solid cheeseburger and the fries I can confirm they were made amazing once I turned them into gumbo

Fries which I gumbo poutine I don’t know how we’re going to call it but I think that’s the way to do it just do it before you mix in all the rice because then you’re eating like rice on fries and then like the rest of the gumbo so

Maybe just get like the the sauce and put that on the french fries and that’s delicious uh but yeah the gumbo is it authentic no not not at all but was it flavorful absolutely it was it was bursting with flavor it was popping I could have used a little bit

More meat in there but I’m always going to say yes to more meat you shut your mouth Rhino you stop it uh but I I thought that was actually really nice and being that it was the the lowest priced item that we had I’m also kind of

Blown Away and just eating that by itself would have left me full but instead I’m being a little Glutton today I guess I’m getting ready to celebrate Fat Tuesday early I ate my whole plate plus all the leftovers of the gumbo so uh Le B Ru but let me clear up Let the

High cholesterol roll he Mr throw me some beads uh as for the king cake listen they are absolutely right that the outside of this was completely inedible it was a travesty the whoever was the pastry chef probably is like I I don’t want to make this anymore I don’t

Want to do it but they make me I would I just want to create a version on my own that I could be proud of something’s going wrong there with it but once you got insight it wasn’t as stale uh it I love the amount of cinnamon I think it

Would be too much cinnamon for a lot of people uh I just could have used like a cream on top versus the really thin flavorless icing felt like it needed it needed a little bit more sugar to go with the cinnamon uh but yeah I you know

Once once one of your co-workers brings you fresh king cake from Louisiana that’s better than any you’ve ever had before it’s hard to ever find one in Florida that will will do the trick this one definitely won’t uh it did not succeed as a cake um it just it it

Didn’t work at all so yeah don’t don’t get that and avoid the disappointment on it literally go to Publix and like the the mass-produced ones that they sell in there are going to be even better than this so uh definitely a bad end to the meal

But like I said Burger was okay gumbo was good I didn’t try Hannah shrimp and grits so I can’t come I can’t talk about about that but the jumbalaya you know mine is not having enough spice to it it’s uh very very close to you know it’s

Very close to jumbalaya that I would make it home if I was trying to have like a more subdued one that uh wasn’t going to to kill my wife with ingredients but I’m leaving here full I’m leaving here feeling that Marty gr Spirit what more could you ask for I

  1. Had the gumbo there earlier this month and I loved it. Compared to the other Disney quick serves, this place is high up on the list. I do miss the crap they used to have hanging from the ceiling tho

  2. We are planning to be at Port Orleans French Quarter for five days during the first week of March. We live in Mississippi, less than two hours from the REAL French Quarter. I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the WDW resort with a Cast Member. It's pretty much the same as the real thing, except I miss the random gunfire, the fights in the streets (steer clear!), the people losing it on the sidewalks (and I don't mean their minds), and the general filth. Other than that, yeah, it's pretty much the same.

  3. We stayed here for a week and the Floatworks was tasty every time. Did not disappoint at all. If you like some spice, try the gumbo. We had the salmon they have like three times. I loved the breakfast totchos as well. Beignets next door are a must. I just loved this resort.

  4. Amen Hannah! Shrimp & Grits should have more of a BBQ type sauce. That did not look like a normal king cake. Ryno’s jambalaya looked yummy. I wanna try the beignets at POFQ.

  5. They’re cooking for the masses so that’s probably why they tone down the spice. My shrimp and grits was good except way too much salt. Pet peeve. I can add my own salt if I need more.
I was expecting you to get the special bananas foster beignets they have now. Especially after a disappointing dessert.

  6. The food looks pretty good! Cute restaurant. Unfortunate presentation of the shrimp and grits, though.
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  7. Why does the shrimp and grits look like soup? I've never had shrimp and grits that look like that

  8. Sounds like Julie should bring a homemade king cake or authentic king cake for Tuesday fat Tuesday show. Great review I love the French Quarter which is the first Disney Hotel we stayed at as a family. Good memories of a beautiful property

  9. Y'all putting too much sassafras on the pronunciation of New Orleans and it's killing me lol. This is all it is: New "Oar-Lense" That's it baby. Stop talking like the ghost of Robert E Lee XD

  10. save the $$$$ spent at disney and go to Mobile AL or New Orleans during mardi gras. great food and amazing cultural experience… and real king cake
