Trump puts on heavy French accent to mock Emmanuel Macron

Donald Trump mocked French President Emmanuel Macron by imitating his accent as he recounted a phone call on tax negotiations during his presidency.

According to Mr Trump, he threatened Mr Macron to put a 100 per cent tariff on wines and champagne imported from France to the US if the French did not remove the 25 per cent tax they were planning to slap on US companies operating in Mexico.

Mr Trump also mimicked US President Joe Biden, who he is likely to face in a general election rematch in November.

Trump is in Iowa to curry support ahead of the state’s Republican caucus on Jan 15, which is the first contest of the Republican presidential nominating contest.

    Macron is a deep sh….. And I 'm French, no one like him even in France, he has been elected with only 24 %. Trump is right for this time. Macron is not good on negociating anything even in our country.

    I try to find respect in Donald Trump, but I cannot help thinking that he's a bit of a chauvinist, & i cannot find any respect in how he behaves, he loves the camera & he's a showman which he gets his kicks out of the very audible reactions from his audience.

    Not very nice for the French president and Donald Trump may mock him and his French accent. But at least, the French president can speak a foreign language with an accent but he can. Other than American, what else Donald Trump can speak ? Knowing that American English is not the proper and pure way of speaking English : British English is the best English as created by the native English speakers in England, ages ago…Donald Trump should be more humble and much less arrogant as he doesn’t speak any foreign languages like most of European leaders.

    straight lie here. The "25%" tax he is talking about refers to the 2017 "gafam tax" that made American companies that make over 25 million euros in France pay a 3% tax to compensate the fact that American companies avoid paying taxes in the European Union by declaring their profits in countries like Ireland or Luxembourg. Trump mixed the numbers up and talked about a 25% tax that never existed. + nobody ever heard about a 100% tarif on French wines. And the gafam tax he apparently managed to unpass still exists to this day and was added again to the 2024 fincance bill passed last December in the French parliament. So trump lied about the tax being 25% instead of 3, lied about a tarif on French wines and lied about the fact that the tax was unpassed by macron despite It still existing to this day.
