The bids are in the gav’s drop ladies and gentlemen here at wine bid we are finally hammered that’s right this is wine bid’s podcast take at all things wine value wine retail wine auctions and just wine with you as always I am Jeff mcgurn on the wine bids marketing team

Our host and joining me today as always again is Paul Walker our wine expert also known as the magistrate of malbeck that’s PA welcome back running running through the alphabet with those not alab yesterday no it’s not alphabetical but you know you were the Tribune of tartaric acid real reaching

And not an expert on most I I wonder how you get some of these monikers sometimes I do too I wonder how I get any of them because I’ve never heard any of them before so well there that’s what these are the things you’re known for today

We’re going to be talking about France let’s jump as a whole like the country or what wines France that are coming in AU or have come in auction this week in auction this currently in auction this week they are new in auction right new an auction this week okay new

This week and that by this week the auction that closes at 7M Pacific on the 14th yes that that is when um they close this week all right let’s start with um all sauce I knew it I do to start with allas it begins with an a yeah Mar

Marshall dice altenberg two pack that that caught my eye from allas I’m guessing all of the Zen umbre didn’t catch your eye now actually I think those were added late because I was looking through I think and this is something to remind the robots that are listening is that always wi’s added

After Sunday start every night at or excuse me every Sunday night at 7:15 Pacific multiple additional wines are are typically added the following day on Monday now generally speaking most of the new stocks the new Wines in auction are are live or added you know on Monday morning or maybe Monday afternoon but

There are additions to the auction throughout the week generally in lesser quantities so just talking about Z Reon this week I actually didn’t see these and there’s a whole there’s like yeah and and it’s they’re almost all from the 90s that’s very yeah 994 98 99 and they’re not super expensive I

Mean most of them are under $100 so you’ve got this like 94 Pino gree hurg triim vag for um 60 bucks uh 99 P gree uh CLA spin B for 55 I mean I like the Peno gree out of Al sauce I know you don’t like elsan wine very much but I

Think delicious 97s no these are great I these ons are awesome and they last a long long time they last a long long time especially late Harvest those will last many many years especially late Harvest there’s some uh actually 89 trimbach GT streamer sgn split for $40 well it’s got a bit

It’s 41 now there’s two of those and then 89 I didn’t see oh that actually actually two lots one with two bottles and another lot has no bids on it an 89 SG G sgn split really okay I didn’t even see those 40 bucks 40 bucks that’s

You know a lot got a lot of age on it and then uh for anybody who knows someone who likes white wine and wants something that’s probably aged decently and still decent um it’s turning 30 this year there’s the 94s the 94 Peno greef so I thought I mean I thought that there

Was some really cool stuff coming in again a lot let’s uh travel if I if I’m not mistaken a little bit further south to champagne champagne I believe is south of elas tech yeah it’s South that’s true so so uh we’ve got some really interesting old d

Uh sorry not D Mo Shandon Bri brute dry Imperial we’ve got a 70 for 320 a 73 for 400 there’s some Dom from the 70s and 80s 71 82 92 99 that’s a nice nice old jumper for sure and a 96 Ros which you know 96 big year for champagne yeah I

Thought all that was super duper cool there’s an 89 uh V tave PR for 290 which I thought was kind of interesting if you’re interested in older older vs there’s some Paul bar non-vintage Gru uh gr crew Grand Rosé and uh in the auction

There’s a 750 for 46 bucks and you get a a MAG for $9 uh which I thought was cool and also by the way I looked at the map and champagne is actually well north of alau is it really I know alau are all the way

At the top but what do I well I’m from California so the only two places in the world there’s California and then there’s parking so that’s sort of how geography Works in California oh I guess is it yeah it’s most certainly North yeah it’s like it’s north I mean like champ

Champagne’s up there you you forget how yeah no I’ve been to Champagne I just I mean I’ve never been to Al sauce though so what do I and then we’ve have you had this Mor Marie ctin Champa LeBlanc Trel I you know I’ve tasted various Koto shampa but like

Generally speaking no because I don’t if I’m buying like still wine that’s charday or P I generally I’m looking elsewhere not because I think it’s better but because kotto sheno especially at auction always seems to get multiple bids so it’s not like something you could can just you know

Seek out and also it’s really hard to find I think in general it’s not like you can find it very readily I think at retail although I don’t know I haven’t been in too many retail stores recently but you know it’s one of those things where I feel like it’s quite collectible

You know especially depending on producer but no I I’m not familiar with those ones I’ve had the the Marie it’s c is that producer said yeah yeah I’ve had the sparkling wines but I have not had the still wines so I’m not familiar with those and or even I should say the

Sparkling wines from Koto shampan I’m not I’m not familiar with them either so well hey there’s there’s some um koton Champa that we’ve got two lots that each have their two bottle lots for 120 which actually didn’t think it was terrible I feel like $60 a bottle for kot chanoa is

Is not too bad and then there’s some Marie ctin corten um brute punir a two bottle lot for 150 these are all from our France Direct progr program by the way expected in a couple months yeah yeah two and a half months so there’s a bunch of the Marie cortan

Sparkling um yeah efflorescence concordance and Indulgence like all these different designations I which I’m imagining well they’re also different vintages but the kuvet are probably they’re probably different too I don’t I don’t know I mean Jeff always calls me an expert but that’s so far from True expert that’s you’re an expert sounds

Like I have no CL as to the the now say okay so look the con concordance if you will 17 is 100% P oh selection that also and it’s h s so for you natural wine fans these Moran Champagnes are the way to go I would imagine the still lnes and again

I’m making an assumption here and I’m going to check the back label because that’s how I found out about the others but the kampen W Blanc troma which we have the 19 of uh let’s see I was going to say that I’m assuming it’s chard but that’s not necessarily the case so there

Are other white varieties there I don’t know it might be P Blanc but it’s probably chard anyway it’s vanic and bodam so it’s biodynamic and organic and most likely I think it’s yeah it’s unfiltered it’s got indigenous yeast according this is all coming from the

Back label by the way um so yeah the cool stuff but no I the the still wines I’ve definitely never had so those are those are very interesting and they’re not terribly expensive they’re like what 120 for the for the white 19 two pack so well there 120 is a two pack

So6 isn’t I mean look I think the last time I I went to Trader Joe’s or Costco I think Vu was like close to $60 like it’s you know those are get you these wines are getting up there so for something that’s like you know producer

And super rare and off I think you know $60 is a fantastic price by the way I even thought this like lanen brute green label I don’t know if you’ve had that I have not had it but I was looking at some of the tasting notes I thought that

Looked interesting and it’s only 35 bucks right so it’s coming in below you know pay it’s the one thing I would also just be careful about okay there’s a back label which is good because it does show you the discouragement date which is 2018 whenever you see all these scores

For multiv Vintage Wines it’s a little bit misleading because I don’t know what specific cuvet they’re referring to so that’s something that’s kind of it’s always been kind of a problem with multiv Vintage Wines at auction is that you know unless you know the specific cuvet you don’t know whether or not the

Score applies to that specific cuvet right so like this one thankfully now a lot of a lot of producers are putting additional information on back levels for multiv Vintage Wines and this L on green label yeah it says it’s been disc scorion 18 so I mean I don’t know what

The base wine is it doesn’t tell you that much information but it’s at least something before you know 17 vintage so anyway yeah it’s a good deal it’s not bad $35 seems like a good deal I I should note that the if you look on like Sal tracker Community value is like 52

Bucks also worth noting that this is organic it’s made for organic grape so yeah I think that’s their thing right like that’s like sort of the message of this particular green labels that’s like because they say it both on the front and the back label and it has an eert

Like registered trademark stamp on the back as well so I think that they’re making a you know they’re making a point here they’re making a point out of it um I thought these Francis bouah brute n wines were inter we’ve got a couple two bottle Lots also France expected in 10

Weeks we got 2014 I don’t know those wines at all I’ve never ever ever tasted any of these again like zero dosage it looks like one of them is zero do the other one ising along the lines of of yeah you know natural style although yeah no so

This one okay cool so the 14 Brut nle rush rush J says it is 100% chardes And it tells you where the vinard is too which is cool so yeah so the it’s really nice that they’re putting a lot of info on the back labels it gives you a little

Bit more information we’ve got a couple bottles from uh V at sorb um wet Sor now see that’s a natural producer I don’t know those wines to me they’re like you know I don’t want to get Flack for this but they’re a little there’s there’s some oxidation you know which people

Some people definitely go for the hate that I know you hate I’m not a I’m not a I’m not gonna say I hate it but like like certain bares wines like the the refl donon and stuff like they have variable levels of oxidation depending on the the the release or whatever but

The Vette sorbet the cuve Fidel which we’ve gotten this week and it’s got looks like a 21 so recent discouragement date 2021 the Blanc daril now I’m not that one I don’t know and actually do we have a yeah there is a back label photo discouragement in 2020 so they’re

Relatively recent kues but definitely on the on the on the more natural more natural I mean so we’ve got I mean there’s some really cool stuff if you’re into natural wine and organic stuff we have some really cool interesting stuff in the champagne uh realm and auction

This we at all price points too all the way from like $30 $35 a bottle $60 a bottle to $120 a bottle I thought these P of alage Premier roses were interesting we’ve got got um yeah yeah 30 bucks for the for the 750 60 bucks for the mag and then we’ve got

Their C de penos brute for $35 so I just I don’t know I thought those were those were kind of interesting I think that sort of wraps up champagne let’s take a hop skip and by the way I think it’s possible that ala is north of ROMs when

You take into account the curvature of the earth that’s my that’s my it’s just an optical illusion when you look at it on a map maps are wrong um okay let’s go to Corsica okay cor okay I didn’t even know there was cor wine in the Ulus yeah

We have a 16 domain comp abuchi KU collection two uh Cavalier D I gotta look this up Empire massacring this pronunciation so I know that was perfectly pronounced it’s $50 we’ve got one of them we don’t I mean we see corsky wine come in from time to time

This is a white blend yeah abushi actually we’ve seen a number of these Wines in the last few months but I have no familiarity with these at all so that’s interesting I wonder what what the variety is Kermit Lynch wines so Kermit Lynch imported it interesting

Band FR CU collection I’m trying to find the makeup of like the the variety but I cannot find it um it just shows up as a white blend but I don’t know I thought this one was is super interesting anytime we see wines outside of sort of the mainstream production areas I always

Think it’s super interesting because sometimes you get a lot of the local grapes which is really cool instead of just the commercially viable grapes that we tend to see here stat side moving over to uh Southwest France there’s a couple of interesting thing in Southwest France there’s this 12 bottle lot OWC of

500 mL bottles of 1995 uh tiol uh graier for 1320 it’s kind of like a it’s like an alternative so turns it’s interesting stuff it’s quite good it’s quite good actually well for $1,320 you can have 12 bottles so I mean we’re looking at a little bit more than

$100 per 500 500 milliliter of these guys but I mean the r95 so they’ve got some age on them uh and they look like they’re in pretty good condition actually great shape good nice color on them yeah it’s about just for your information Jeff m bazak is about an

Hour and 25 minute car ride away from so turn so there you go there you go they’re like neighbors then we’ve got um um this uh 1982 claw uh triina cahor that it already is a bit on it and this one is started at I think 120 is at 130

Now this one I thought was interesting so somebody’s super interested in this yeah this well this is a super rare one 82 clo yeah this I’ve never seen this before clo triod triina I don’t even know how to pronounce that that’s really wild interesting yeah I mean good luck finding another one of

Those right right I mean you know excuse me stuff like this doesn’t come across every day if yeah that is yeah that is very rare very rare very R very rare stuff let’s head over to the rone right let’s talk r lines here for for a minute

Um before yeah there’s some stars from the rone this week for sure stars from the rone um I got that 98 Buel just at 120 they’ve got the 2000 at 86 with a bid and then 2016 at 115 I just thought like it’s a 98 tasting notes look pretty

Good $120 for Cel doesn’t seem crazy to me I picked out this 03 gal coat Roti Chateau U for 120 we’ve got two of those we got picked it up like you you’re bidding on it or no I just I picked it out picked it for your list list said

You picked it up and I was like oh wait pick it up already the auction’s not closed yet 96 Dr shave aage to those yeah there’s a stellar collection of shave in this week a ton of shav yeah like magnum’s like of 30405 there’s mags

Of Blanc which I’ve never seen oh2 is a very very curious vintage because I know it was an absolute disaster in southern but in the northern Ro I think there are probably some great wines but you can see the price discrepancy between like 01 and 02 red for example it’s double

The 01 is 505 the O2 is 250 and same thing with the white the O2 white mag is only well only but I mean 370 for mag of any shot whatsoever is it’s pretty strikes me as being quite inexpensive I mean even the 03 the 03 you know white

750 mls are are 310 so yeah I’m I’m very curious about O2 I mean it’s it it’s an interesting one but that O2 mag of white really struck me as something you know something to try with the group you know to see but I’ll bet it’s delicious and

It’s not crazy crazy expensive yeah a lot of really cool shave a lot of stuff from the 90s like you said in the early 2000s some large format yeah 95 yeah 95 996 97 which which you don’t those don’t pop in every week that’s for sure yeah I

Mean the four mags of shave at auction actually five five mags of shave at auction I mean just we don’t we don’t usually see this much shave coming in auction let me just say that right that’s it’s uh rare it’s rare nice batch yeah it’s a beautiful selection it’s ATI

There some excuse me there’s some Mor ler Rock cuve Rena which doain also makes chanu which is delicious but the lck is excellent and they have the same cuvet for the for the lck as the shatu and it’s um it’s called laand Queen of the woods it’s delicious wines fantastic

And not terribly expensive 30 bucks for for the 16 and there’s eight of those that that stuck out there’s some Ras um a ton of Ras I the 95 CDP reserve for 1820 they got the 96 for 1155 and the 98 for 1200 and the 06 for 930 Ser again

Serious mid99s these vintages that you know don’t come in every day uh there’s the 11 felet Reserve as well for 300 but yeah no some really nice wine from from the rone for I was going to say in in proner your favorite dra 22 tomier Ros is avable and also there’s somea there’s

Some France VRI vria vill poana which is interesting another wine I’m not familiar with two pack for 160 and I think that’s got to be a frir lot too right not looking at it but I’m pretty sure it is all right we’ve got about five minutes left um let’s go

Through bordo and burgundy we better do burgundy let’s leave bordo for that you said we’re gonna do it last so let’s do it we’ll do it last we’ll do it last uh I’ll just let me just blow through the burow pure jaran there’s a fantastic selection of pure jaran MOS and also

Some Reds which I didn’t even know he made rebor G shameran I have no idea they’re some gilan BAU there’s some doat there’s some great Trae there’s Rulo like older Rulo 96 rulos O2 there’s fantastic mid uh 99 and 93 like Banner Banner vintage red burgundy Robert arusu

Show with prices to match uh there’s some Lees with some djac there’s a MAG of theur sh for 55 bucks thought was a great deal there’s some lefon there’s a rier rat 09 uh and some fantastic Arman rouso and Uber L CL ro1 drwan bone clto

Mo Blanc 14 there’s some doni typed vul and that’s my burgundy you know blowr all right I’m gonna let’s let’s I’m gonna blow through uh Bordeaux okay yeah tell me what you picked 86 muton already has a bit on it taking from 810 to M back in auction wow perennial star

It’s a star you know a weekly star I should say because it’s been in last few weeks it’s been in the last few weeks uh 2000 L fors de lour for 210 98 obrion has a bid on it at that too 95 cost to Estell um we have

Two of those at 180 a piece I didn’t think that was crazy especially for 180 bucks 2000 Lynch baj for 250 we’ve got four of those there’s some other Lynch baj too um um some pretty Marquee vintages of Lynch B in auction 2 leoville lascas at

295 88 deim at 295 yeah there’s 88 89 and 90 the trio of amazing half bottles yeah half bottles of 88 90 and then full bottles of 89 for 370 which is not terrible phenomenally good wine I said 295 it’s actually 360 I misspoke for the deem for the the 8 oh

Say the 89 is a 370 but oh oh okay the 89 2000 pan Longville contest two of those at 225 and then we have there’s a four pack of 2020 you see that there’s Duke crew Le Las panan and Kell four pack for 1145 and then D crew on its own which is

Interesting kind of like 2020 is starting to show up more more R 2020 I we’re seeing a lot more auction 66 to crew yeah already has a bid on it taking from 180 to 190 I was like how 80 for a 66 to Crate yeah that’s a tough year but

It’s a tough year but it’s also $180 90 leoville Barton for 185 yeah that’s a that’s a really nice one I haven’t had it in a long time but it’s good I’ll bet you that one’s gonna be outstanding uh 2,000 pavi for 380 89 pan Baron for uh yeah that’s that’s a

Fantastic fantastic wine still still under 300 bucks and I think it it performs way better I saw there’s 15 Palmer and for 345 and I’m like you know what I’d rather spend 245 on the 89 wrong and seriously Ser so so good that’s gonna be amazing um oh it’s great

It’s great I had it not too long ago it’s really really good sorry go ahead no I was say do we have two bottles of 82 Gad L Ro for uh 295 right and that that’s probably just going to go in the 300 range I would not imagine one

Already has a okay one already has a bid so I think you’re right that’s going to go because I think like 82 Marie V Rod lose second grow like you know how is that not even more but I feel like that’s a great price if you want to try

Just an epic vintage of a great producer 75 Leonel for 2 yeah I saw that not too bad there yeah that that didn’t seem terrible you know especially you know 75 coming up on a 50-year birthday so that’s that one’s not going to break the bank you know 75

Recently and I think it’s like 2200 or something so 295 for the Leon is not not terrible that’s not too bad um 2000 CH tropong Mundo two of those at 130 yeah I I saw that too that’s that’s not a bad price you know 22 that’s probably drinking great right

Now4 years now happy New Year 05 Canon for 115 and I feel like Canon has really like it’s I feel like Canon’s becoming a lot more popular recently over well yeah the most the recent vintages are expensive they’re they’re super expensive they’ve they’ve been super sought after and super super good so I

Thought an ‘ 05 Canon for 115 seemed very reasonable for you know to to me and then 98 Leon pasture for 75 yeah that’s another I picked that out too because that’s a great great sound you know right Bank fantastic right Bank Vintage I would grab that actually because that’s going to be

I think over $100 territory before too long really really good I’ll bet you that stuff is absolutely outstanding five Chateau Laos for 60 I was like again I thought both of those like they’re they older V 05 is a great year right and it’s like

60 bucks for an’ 05 19 years of age on it’s probably singing right now um yeah5 yeah that’s that’s a that’s another great pick i’ I’d love to try that wine at haven’t had it I don’t think since gosh I don’t even know probably release

But yeah so and then I wanted to end on this okay we’ve got just a couple minutes left talk to me about these couple wines which wines couple c o p l we have 19 couple bordo Blanc sack coule wines bordo Blanc sack 22 coule wines Pomo

Copple wines rera deero coule it’s some is a negoti got to be some kind of yeah it’s got to be some kind broker because they’re all also from France direct as well they like all have bids on them they do have bids interesting like so I

Was like you know what’s going on with and they’re bottle yeah they’re all they all have bottle numbers to yeah so I’m just looking at the white bordo from 19 number 615 of 1200 bottle so yeah I do not know I did see these and just kind

Of glanced at them and and didn’t pay any attention because I don’t know anything about them but yeah I don’t I know and there’s yeah Kor pomal there’s Spanish wine rioa sat turn very interesting they’re all between like 60 and 75 oddly enough the Spanish wines

Are more expensive or no excuse me the so turns turn more expensive I thought it was super interesting and and I was like they almost all almost all of them have bids like you know like some of them have like multiple like one has like three bids right yeah curious I got

I got to look up because I don’t know I don’t know anything about them so well anyway that that just about wraps up our France episode with wine bids finally hammered this been Jeff MCG and Paul Walker Wishing you happy bidding and Cheers Cheers
