Step off the busy Rue de Temple street in the heart of ever-trendy and popular third arrondissement of Paris, you’ll find Le Reflet.
Stone walls, white paint, and custom wood tables create an open, airy, and somewhat typical modern restaurant space. But who operates this unique eatery is anything but typical – the staff at Le Reflet have the condition Down’s syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21.
The restoration project was designed by Flore Lelièvre, an interior designer whose brother has Down’s syndrome. In one of the dining spaces, names of all who have worked or participated in the project hang from the ceiling. Like little paper angels, they float above your head as you contemplate meal choices.
