David Trafford De Trafford Winery on the slopes of Helderberg is one the most humble pioneers you’ll ever meet. He has a quiet, rambling way of speaking. The sheer seriousness of what he said and, moreover, what he did have always impressed me. A “monopoly” is French term referring to a title or wine-growing region entirely controlled or represented by winery, was previously undiscovered and even designated Malgas until David Rita Trafford found it while vacationing on the shores of Breede in 2000. The river, 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean, is such a place.
