‘O Holy Night’ finds its origins in a small town in Southern France called Roquemaure. The church organ had been renovated in 1843 and the priest asked Placide Cappeau, a local poet and wine merchant, to pen a Christmas poem. The music was composed to the poem later that year by Adolphe Adam. The lyrics we know today are the result of the English translation from the French by John Dwight.
How serene would have been the night when Jesus was born, when he came to us in a manner that was so unassuming. For me, this piece puts that into perspective perfectly.
Enjoy this one with blessings for the week ahead. Do share it if you like it!
