It’s always interesting to see how other countries and cultures talk about our own. In this case, it’s a french recipe that I found in the book “À Portuguesa: Receitas em Livros Estrangeiros até 1900”. It comes originally from the book “La Cuisine Classique” and follows the trend of adding oranges to a dish and calling it Portuguese. A trend that dates back to the renaissance and the introduction of sweet oranges to Europe via Portugal.
I am very allergic to oranges and reduced the orange content of this recipe to only the peels because that is usually the most harmless part of the fruit for me. But I either used too much or am becoming more sensitive than I used to be because I ended up having a minor allergic reaction anyway.
No regrets! But although delicious, this is not something I’ll cook again.
