Domaine du Mas de Rey has a long history. The property was a Templar Order temple in the 12th century and became a winery in 1843. It was purchased in 2012 by Didier & Cathy. Their daughter,
Marion Cornille now runs the winery. The winery is going organic and hopes to be certified organic by 2023
The winery has 110 hectares and the average of their vines is 30 years. They have sandy silt soils, which are perfect for growing Marselan (they have the oldest Marselan vines in the world) and
stoney soils with clay & chalk, which are perfect for growing Chardonnay & Syrah.
Bouches-du-Rhône is the IGP title for wines made in the southern coast of France. Bouches-du-Rhône lies within the Provence wine region. The combination of climate and geography makes Bouches-du-Rhône a perfect location to grow grapes. The sub region to Bouches du Rhone were the winery is located is called Terre de Camargue, which lies in the southwest part of the region.
This is part 1 of my tasting of the wines from Domaine du Mas de Rey. The wines tasted in this video are:
Mas de Rey 2021 L’Espriit Camargue: Blend of 45% Viognier, 45% Chardonnay, 10% Vermentino/Sauvignon Blanc
Mas de Rey 2021 Chasan
Mas de Rey 2017 Secrets de Cornille Rouge – blend of 55% Syrah, 45% Marselan
They do not currently have a distributor in B.C. but if you are in Europe, you can find their wines on their online store. The prices of these wines are very reasonable.
