Part 2 of the rediscovering of the shipwreck Rontegui. The ship ran aground after navigational error on the 16th March 1880 enroute Oran to Dunkirk with Iron ore and 85 casks of wine. The iron ore was said to affected their compass.
The second part of the 3 part exploration series looks at establishing what’s happening with the stern and working out where it all now lies on the seabed. The partial removal of kelp to random areas was preformed in the first part and this allowed us to find the engine, some plates and also importantly the stern including the large damaged propeller. A drone was taken up to establish the environment in which she now lies. The reefs and boue’s were investigated to establish how close we can approach in the boat and also to see if she was visible from the air. This journey will see a small team of divers rediscovering a forgotten shipwreck which hasn’t been dived for many many years. Hope you can following along with this discovery.
