Barolo is a unique wine for many reasons. Especially from the fact that the Nebbiolo grapes can express such different characteristics in each vintage and coming from different plots . In the Barolo area, you are not allowed to irrigate and with such a variable climate at the base of the Italian – French Alps it has a great influence on the vines. However, the most important factor is the soil. With this wine we find ourselves in the village of Castiglione Falletto with mixed calcareous sandy and clayey soils presenting a fantastic vintage (one of the best in the last decades) 2010.
This particular Barolo is an incredible expression of how the vintage can affect the wine and give us such a beautiful traits, with a certain elegance and incredible complexity. Barolo Casavecchia comes from a single vineyard “Piantà” which is located in the village of Castiglione Falletto, one of the eleven villages for the Barolo production. The eastern exposure adds more finesse and silky tannins due to the morning sun, which is a bit cooler than the south and west exposures.
