Hahn Family Wines Director of Winemaking, Paul Clifton, presents the 2019 Lucienne Smith Pinot Noir.
A Sense of Place
The Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, home to a mere 6,400 acres of vineyards, stretches 18 miles south of Monterey Bay. Planted on a windswept alluvial bench, our four estate vineyards account for 650 acres and vary in slope, elevation, and wind speed. Inspired by the distinctive character of each vineyard, Lucienne vineyard-designated Pinot Noir captures the nuances of Santa Lucia Highlands terrior.
Each estate vineyard is unique, owing its distinct character to variations in climate, topography and wind speeds but yet remarkably consistent Chualar Loam soils. Our Certified Sustainable Estate Vineyards are hand-harvested and the fruit meticulously selected to embody the true expression of the vineyard.
Limited in production, these wines are the finest expression of Pinot Noir from our estate vineyards. Hand-sorted fruit is cold soaked and then transferred to small, open top fermenters, gently punched down and aged in the finest French oak barrels for 14 months.
