This is my favorite coffee! The beans are oily and the smell is remarkable when the bag is opened. It brews really well. It’s extremely flavorful and intense.
I’m very particular about my coffee and like it very (very very very) dark, strong, smoky, bold, etc. Most coffees that are “dark roast” don’t measure up for me.
This one and Starbucks French Roast are en par favorites, but this brand is more affordable and much more ethical… if you look into them you’ll find everything from eco friendly packaging to beans sourced from more ethical farms.
I have been buying this for years from Costco. They recently changed packaging and pricing so Amazon is similar to Costco in cost, plus more convenient!

As I have gradually morphed from a young, carefree, man about town to an aging, embittered crank, I have become increasingly particular about the coffee I drink.
I have searched high and low for good French roast over the years, with hit or miss results until I ordered San Francisco Bay about a year ago, which I have now ordered half a dozen times in the months since.
The beans have always arrived fresh, dark, and shiny, with that distinctive aroma unique to fresh, well roasted coffee.
Ive used it in cone filter, French press, espresso machine, and K-cup variations (I have a Bunn K-cup machine that has an attachment for loose grounds), all to wonderful effect.
Frankly, Ive been startled by the occasional negative reviews, given my experience.
It is possible that Ive simply gotten lucky; or it may be that any given brand of coffee is one of those things, like Love Actually, the color pink, or fruit bats, that you either really like, or despise with a fiery passion.
Oops! I thought I ordered organic. I normally order Organic French Roast coffee beans for wellness reasons, but, oh well, opened this bag anyways and inhaled its rich sweet aroma.
Yum, I think to myself, this is gonna be good! I experienced pure deliciousness on the front of my tongue and rich/clean/smoky notes all over my tongue.
It goes down clean and smooth – smooth but powerful. I dont crave the taste of wine so Im not a wine drinker, however, I do know there is a delightful after effect from a good smooth wine, and this is the affect I get from this coffee.
So after just one 15 oz mug, Im actually not craving another. This never happens. Over an hour later I still feel satisfied. Well… for now, Ill be taking advantage of this happy mistake while this bag lasts since Im not feeling any bad affects from it.
UPDATE: My coffee still tastes as delicious as when I opened the bag because I immediately put my beans into PLANETARY DESIGN AIRSCAPE containers.
With these containers, you push the air completely out and away from your delicious coffee beans, and then you lock it. Very user-friendly and nice to look at, as well.
When I opened the bag I could smell that good coffee smell. The beans were dark and oily and I just knew they had to be pretty fresh. I made a pot, I use a French press.
The taste was very good and it did have a Caffeine kick to it. Good coffee at a good price. Will buy again.
