On this episode of Beat the Receipt, Chef Tom Cunanan and Food-Writer, Marisel Salazar try their hand at the challenge of making a “Breakfast” dish for under $20. Each contestant will create a recipe based on ingredients they can source in their area, all while staying under $20. Spoiler alert: contestants are allowed one “budget breaker” ingredient … as long as they can find it for free. Unknowingly, both contestants whip up French Toast influenced by their childhood. Tom makes a savory garlic French Toast while Marisel makes a sweet dulce de leche French Toast.
