The name Kir gets from Canon Félix Kir, who was once the mayor of Dijon, France in the early 20th century. He was not the creator of this classic cocktail, but he was able to popularized this drink locally, so it quickly became known as Canon Kir’s aperitif, and now as just Kir.

Kir and Kir royale are both two ingredients cocktail that are made with Crème de Cassis, a blackcurrant liqueur.

Kir
1 part of Crème de Cassis
6 parts of White wine (preferred Bourgogne white wine)

Kir Royale
1 part of Crème de Cassis
6 parts of Sparkling wine (preferred Champagne)

Even the 1: 6 ratio is considered the best, you can choose your own ratio depend on your preference.
Except Kir Royale, there are a numerous other variation of this classic Kir. If you replace the white wine with cider, then its kir breton; replace the white wine with lager, it becomes to Kir Bière (“Beer” in French).
