For someone who sold wine and created wine lists for forty years, a trip to Burgundy was long over due at age 67. To be able to stand in the Grand Cru vineyards of “Montrachet” and “Romanee-Conti” was perhaps the ultimate experience in the world of wine. If that were not enough, I was treated with a barrel tasting of over twenty of the world’s finest chardonnays and pinot noirs at Louis Jadot in Beaune. A simple lunch of lasagna at a cafe in Beaune was elevated to a grand experience with a glass of the Beaujolais Cru “Brouilly.” It may have been the finest pairing of food and wine in my life.
