French Crepe
Crepes are one of the most delicious and easy recipes you can serve for breakfast. It is full of health benefits! Kids love to eat crepes for breakfast. The recipe is simple and can be made with easily available ingredients usually found in one’s pantry. French crepes may also be considered a type of thin/flat French pancake and can be made and filled with sweet or savory ingredients. These crepes may be eaten with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, any other fruit of your choice, or a sweet cream filling with fruit, as used in this recipe. To make a savory crepe one may leave out the vanilla and sugar and fill the crepe with a creamy gravy of mushroom, eggs and ham, or chicken, for a breakfast crepe.
This recipe is one of the most common breakfast recipes in France. Crepes are different from regular American pancakes because they do not have baking soda or baking powder, so they turn out wafer thin, soft, and delicate, rather than thick and fluffy. Crêpes are cooked using a large flat pan or skillet but may be cooked with any large nonstick frying pan.
Now let us begin this simple mouthwatering easy breakfast recipe.
Ingredients for 6-7 Crepes
all-purpose flour-1 cup
eggs 2
milk -1 cup and 1 tablespoonful
butter -2 tablespoonful
sugar-1 tablespoonful
salt- 1 pinch
vanilla extract -5-6 drops
Preparation
First add all the dry ingredients into a bowl, then add the eggs and mix. Add the milk whisk until the batter is smooth and let it rest for at least 30-45min.
Heat an 8- or 10-inch nonstick skillet over high heat for 2 minutes.
Add a bit of butter or oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
Pour 1/4 cup of batter into hot pan and swirl it around so that it coats the bottom of the pan completely
Lower heat cooks slowly so that the batter dries on top before it burns on the bottom then, cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
Flip over the crepe gently and cook the other side for about 1/2 minute.
Fill the crepe with desired filling, may also be served with a favorite fruit. I have used Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Crepe and Philadelphia Strawberry Cream Cheese.
Sprinkle powder sugar on the top if ideal.
