Tasting with Ayana – winemaker of Grace Wine, Japan on her current range.
Akeno 2017 – this is the 1st vintage release and is Ayana’s expression of terroir of Akeno Vineyard. Sitting at 700m altitude, an up and coming winemaking region outside of Katsunuma.
Grace Wine started in 1923, when first generation Chotaro Misawa came to Katsunuma Village in Yamanashi Prefecture and launched his “Chotaro” label wine.
Ayana is 5th generation in the Misawa family & returned in 2007 after finishing her studies in France & South Africa. On her return, she has been pushing Grace Wine beyond the “Japanese wine” framework, into the unique flavour realm of its own.
