Philippe Chautard of Maison Louis Picamelot
France makes awesome sparkling .. But not always from Champagne!
Crémant is the name for sparkling wines made in French regions outside the AOP(Appellation d’Origine Protégée) of Champagne. Maison Louis Picamelot is a small house located in Rully, Burgundy next door to some of Burgundy’s finest Grand Cru vineyard’s. The wine in “Battle” is grown in a single parcel above the picturesque village of Saint Aubin.
The newly constructed cellar at Maison Louis Picamelot is built between the walls of an old quarry to harnesses the earth’s natural cool temperatures, which make for the perfect conditions to age Philippe’s single vineyard sparkling wines.

As a Third generation vigneron Philippe Chautard knows how to perfect his house style and has been “Nominated” by leading French Sommelier Caroline Furstoss. Continuing the Gallic theme – the opponent in “Battle” to Philippe is Frenchman Xavier Bizot.
Xavier makes his sparkling on the other side of the world however. Made in the charming Piccadilly Valley of the Adelaide Hills, Xavier’s Daosa is championed by star sommelier Liinaa Berry.
