Wine with Andy: An introduction to wine
Episode 3 – How climate affects flavour (Part II – red wines)

Carrying on with the climate comparison we started last time, in this episode we’re looking at a pair of red wines. As well as thinking about the effect of climate on flavour, we’re looking at how red wine is different to white.

Wines in this episode:
– Merlot from South Africa or Australia
– Merlot from Bordeaux, France (look out for St Emilion on the label)

I tasted:
– McGuigan Reserve Merlot (Sainsburys, £7.00) –
– Roc de Lussac, Lussac-St-Emilion (Sainsburys, £9.00) –

Wines for next episode:
– Off-dry Riesling from Germany (look out for alcohol content of 10-11% or lower)
– Dry Riesling from Germany, France (Alsace), or Austria

I’ll be tasting:
– Leitz Magdalenenkreuz Riesling Kabinett (Waitrose, £13.99) –
– Cave de Beblenheim Kleinfels Riesling (Waitrose, £10.99) –
