Israel is a fascinating country to visit. Of course they are known for religious sites, history and beautiful natural scenary, but did you know they also produce wine? Just like thousands of years ago, an area called the Negev Highlands, near the Negev desert, is home to a group of small wineries.

I visited the Desert Estate Carmey Avdat winery ( near the ancient city of Avdat. It’s near the Dead Sea and Masada, mid-way between Bersheeba and Eilat along Israeli Route 40. The route is now called the Negev Wine Trail.

The wine is Israel was quite good, they have a decent selection of whites, reds and rose’. I would compare it to wine from places like Austria or Portugal, with less depth than what you find in French wine or wine from Napa Valley.
