The word ‘unprecedented’ has seen, well, unprecedented use in recent times, but not always accurately. In the case of Bordeaux En Primeur 2019, it is fair to say that it has been something of a departure from the norm.
This year, we saw prices drop across the 2019 vintage between 10-30%. After a long delay where chateaux and negociants alike were holding fire and buying time to see how global lockdown impacted markets, Pontet-Canet led the charge as one of the most sought after producers to release early. What followed was a torrent of releases, day-after-day.
