Our first ever video version of our “Change from a Twenty” blog, where we introduce you to some fun and exciting new wines that will expand your wine repertoire, while still leaving you some change in your pocket from a twenty dollar bill!
Today we are showcasing a fun variety from the South of France called Picpoul de Pinet. Picpoul de Pinet is a fantastic compliment to your white wine list, with fresh aromas and flavors of lemon and green apple. It has a wonderful full-body paired with high but smooth acidity, and without the grassy herbaceousness of a Sauvignon Blanc or the buttery heaviness of a Chardonnay that some people may want to avoid. What it may lack in complexity, it more than makes up in refreshing, clean primary flavors.
Made from a grape called Picpoul, this wine from the Languedoc region of southern France drinks beautifully on its own. The high acidity in the Picpoul de Pinet will balance nicely with an acidic and zesty vinaigrette on your favorite fresh summer salad, some salmon or a delicious cold pasta salad.
We found this bottle here in Colorado Springs at Newton’s Wine & Spirits for $13.99 retail. A great value leaving you with plenty of change in your pocket.
Give Picpoul de Pinet a try, and let us know what you think in the comments. And a reminder that we are hosting a free virtual class this coming Friday, July 10th on the basics of Italian Wine Labels. A link to register will be in the comments below, so open up your favorite Italian wine and join us for some fun! And remember that almost any wine shared among good friends is a good wine! See you next time!
