Breakfast is the most important meal of the day (no matter what time you eat it)! Chef Joe’s spin on French toast is so delicious, you’ll want to make it every day!
Ingredients:
⚡️ 6 Large Eggs
⚡️ 1 1/2 Cups Whole Milk
⚡️ 1 1/2 Cups Light Cream
⚡️ 3 Tablespoons Orange Liquor or Orange Juice
⚡️ 3 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
⚡️ 3/4 Teaspoon Grated Nutmeg
⚡️ 1/4 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
⚡️ 1 Loaf Sourdough or Brioche Bread, sliced 1 inch thick
⚡️ 1 Cup Packed Light Brown Sugar
⚡️ 10 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
Instructions:
1️⃣ In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, orange liqueur, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt.
2️⃣ Dip each piece of bread in mixture for 10 seconds. Lay out slices on a baking sheet pan. Pour remaining custard over bread and cover with plastic wrap. Let soak in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight. Flip bread slices over about an hour before baking, and put back in the fridge.
3️⃣ Heat oven to 375 F. In a saucepan, whisk together and melt brown sugar and butter. Spray baking pan with nonstick spray, and pour brown sugar mixture into pan. Spread out evenly.
4️⃣ Transfer soaked bread onto sugared baking sheet, placing slices on top of brown sugar mixture.
5️⃣ Bake for about 25 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
6️⃣ Serve immediately (while still hot) with the brown sugar side you, spooning more pan syrup over the top.
Yield: 6 to 8 servings
