2012 Domaine des Terrisses Gaillac Rouge French Red Wine Extended Review

Domaine des Terrisses has been the property of the Cazottes family since 1750. The 40 hectares of vineyards are located in the Gaillac appellation, situated along the “Premier Côtes” hillsides facing south-southwest toward the Tarn River. Here the local, ancient varieties of Gaillac are planted: Mauzac and Len d L’ehl for the whites and Braucol and Duras for the reds. Gaillac is one of the oldest wine regions in France being one of the first two areas selected by the Romans for the establishment of the vine.

The Domaine des Terrisses Rouge is produced from a blend of 50% Braucol, 30% Duras and 20% Syrah. Each variety is harvested and fermented separately. Remontage (pumping over) is carried out twice daily. Racking takes place during the winter and the blending is done in the spring, after which the wine is held in tank for a year before bottling.
