People queued up outside the famous Galeries Lafayette flagship store in Paris on Saturday, as the famed store reopened its doors to a round of applause after three months of closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The retailer’s security personnel ensured customers complied with the compulsory use of masks and upheld a safe distance while entering the building.

The customers’ hands were sprayed with disinfectant as they walked through the massive Galeries Lafayette located on Boulevard Haussmann.

“I’m really happy to come back and to be able to go shopping,” said a customer.

Inaugurated in 1912, Galeries Lafayette receives around 37 million visitors every year. With around 40 million clients per year, as reported on their website, the retailer on Boulevard Haussmann claims to be Europe’s biggest retailer in terms of sales.

As of Saturday, France still occupies a high rank in the countries’ most affected by the coronavirus worldwide, with 186,924 coronavirus cases and 28,717 related fatalities, as Johns Hopkins University compiled data shows.
