Two thousand years of history are embedded in the small French town of Saint-Émilion, where vines have been cultivated on its limestone plateau since at least Roman times. The Saint-Émilion AOC is also responsible for some of the most prestigious and collectible wines in the world including famous names like Ausone, Canon, and Angélus. With prestige comes classification followed by controversy after its 2006 review (a French sport!). As it stands, sixty-four hold the title Grand Cru Classé, eighteen are classified as Premiers Grands Crus Classé, and four are in a class of their own: Premiers Grands Crus Classé (A). Master Sommeliers Ron Edwards and Jesse Becker unpack Saint-Émilion’s complexity in this webinar.
