Acidity, Alcohol and sweetness in wines vary. Why is that and how can I know what is in a bottle just from labeling? Warm climate versus cool climate regions have drastic changes in how a wine will taste. Wine grapes as they mature tend to lose acidity and increase grape sugars, body and alcohol. Understanding where a wine comes from is a great way to know if you will like it. Some wines are acidic and have lemon, lime and grapefruit notes while some have peach and nectarine notes and others pineapple and mango. The longer the grape is on the vine (it is also grape varietal dependent as well) the wine could move from citrus notes to peach or pitted fruit notes to tropical fruit notes. If you know that you like tropical fruit notes, look for wines from warmer regions like Italy, California or Australia. If you like a lighter bodied wine with a balance of acidity and alcohol along with a nice fruit balance look for something in a cooler climate to medium climate region like Oregon, Washington, France or Germany.
