Being an American expat living abroad in France the last 6 years, today I thought I would share the struggles of MAINTAINING YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE WHEN LIVING ABROAD! ✌🏽
It’s not easy to maintain a good level of your native language when you live in a new country that speaks another language, especially when you are doing your best to integrate into the adopted culture! From cutting your words, to loss of vocab and adapting your native language to foreigners it’s inevitable that your speaking abilities will change, even though your comprehension will stay in tact!
Living in Limoges (central France) has definitely helped me improve my French, but invertly (you see, I’m not sure this is the best word choice 😅) took a toll on my English communication
