To make this traditional entrecote recipe, you will need a beef cut from the rib area, which is also known as ribeye. I enjoy a good piece of meat and creamy mushroom sauce, and it is so easy to make.

I love steak. On my first trip to France, I felt like I had stepped into my own version of Heaven. At the first French bistro I visited, I chose to order the entrecote steak with mushroom. That entrecote was a delicious premium cut of beef. A fantastic boneless ribeye steak covered with a delicious creamy mushroom sauce. And that delicious mushroom sauce covering the entrecote steak was the perfect sauce, made with red wine, shallots, beef stock, and butter. It was absolutely extraordinary. It completely transforms the steak into an irresistible, restaurant-worthy meal. A meal that would be perfect for spoiling a king.

In this recipe, we have replaced the traditional red wine with cognac to give it a more French variation. This is a mouthwatering combination of rich brown mushroom sauce and tender ribeye. This recipe for entrecote steak with mushroom will be ready in just 30 minutes. I can’t wait to eat it!

The mushroom sauce
You can make the mushroom sauce in many styles, but always mushrooms are the primary ingredient. So ensure you get good quality and fresh mushrooms. Having a good mushroom sauce will help you with other dishes as well. It can be served with veal, chicken and poultry, pasta, and other foods such as vegetables.

You will make your sauce by mixing mushrooms, butter, cream, olive oil, red wine, and pepper. You can experiment with a wide variety of variations possible with additional ingredients such as shallot, garlic, lemon juice, flour (to thicken the sauce), chicken stock, saffron, basil, parsley, or other herbs. We like our mushroom sauce prepared as a brown sauce.

Mushroom sauces have been cooked for hundreds of years. United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower a well-known steak lover, was quite fond of mushroom sauce. He would have loved this recipe.

Cook the entrecote steak
This entrecote steak with mushrooms recipe is indeed the ultimate dinner! Ribeye is the steak of choice for this recipe, so stick to it. Don’t replace it with New York strip, Porterhouse, Sirloin or Rump, as other chefs and recipes suggest. A good cut of ribeye beef, even though expensive, is the best steak to cook with and enjoy eating. You will end up with a tender and juicy steak and not chewy like cheaper cuts more suitable for slow cooking.
