We’re always excited to discover a French sparkling wine house which isn’t Champagne, and yet is ticking all the right boxes and eliciting all the same reactions. Maison Antech definitely sits in this category, and after six generations of success, experimentation, innovation, and upholding tradition, they’ve nailed a set of techniques and a house style which is impossible to resist. The cremant wines made by Antech and its team of family winemakers really are the epitome of French fine living – they delight the senses, pair splendidly with food, and offer the perfect accompaniment to lazy days spent with friends, or late nights on the beach under the stars. According to chief winemaker Francoise Antech, that’s exactly what she wants from her output: to offer top-notch sparkling wine free from pretension, but packed full of memorable character.
The Maison has been producing sparkling wines since the latter half of the 19th century. More recently, they’ve branched out into rose wines, and making good use of their spectacular Chardonnay vines in varietal table wines which show off the quality of their grapes. Cremant is riding high on a wave of intrigue and enthusiasm right now, and that’s all down to wineries like Maison Antech, their dedication to excellence, and their refusal to compromise their values. Cheers to that!
This is a historical treasure – the Limoux region has the first recorded sparkling wines ever made, in 1531! Antech harvest all grapes by hand, and this blend is based on local variety Mauzac. It’s a stunning wine – dominated by yellow apple & white flowers, with notes of fresh pastry and a hint of almond on the palate.
