Teroldego has a unique hue to its deep inky color. While most wines have a purple, garnet, or magenta edge the color of Teroldego’s leans towards blue/black. The aroma features black cherry, wood smoke, and roasted meat along with a floral scent of hibiscus flower. Teroldego has a reputation for absorbing and integrating the influence of barrel aging which is to say the bouquet is not obvious; the oak has folded into and become a part of the wine’s overall essence and it takes a bit of time in the glass for our signature hazelnut and caramel scents to emerge. Savory plum and pomegranate flavors are delivered by a wine with a rich creamy texture. The acidity of Teroldego can be significant, sour at times, and while the acid of this wine is evident I like to think we have dialed it back to provide a balanced brightness that keeps the wine succulent and savory. The deep color predicts a wine loaded with extract, but this wine is exceptionally smooth and supple. In most cases the finish of a wine focuses on the oak and tannin, but not here; jammy boysenberry flavors linger well delaying the final note of toasted oak.
