The original 1,500 square foot home had an awkward layout with a closed off galley kitchen that also doubled as a laundry space. A tiny single bathroom for 3 bedrooms and a unfinished sun room that blocked most of the light into the house made for a dark home that did not facilitate a growing family. The new floor plan moved the kitchen into the sun room and made the most of the vaulted ceiling, beams and natural sun light. A generous dining and combined family/living room could then be laid out flowing from the kitchen. A large bay window was also installed at the front of the house to provide more seating for the family/living room without taking up floor space. Moving the kitchen also allowed us to create a dedicated laundry space and a niche office along with a master bathroom and more generous 2nd bath. Large French doors off the kitchen connects the outdoor space improving indoor/outdoor living, while access to the laundry room from the backyard and pool ensures wet suits and feet are kept out of the main spaces. The master bedroom also includes French doors to the backyard providing more natural light and direct access to the outdoors. Reconfiguring the layout maximized the small home into a generous space without adding square footage.
