BGM: Routes – 米澤円
Angers is a city in western France and the capital of Maine-et-Loire department (department 49) in the Pays-de-la-Loire region. Located in the lower Loire river, about 120 kilometers from the Atlantic ocean. The river Maine, a tributary of the Loire, flows through the centre of this city. Angers is surrounded by castles and is a famous wine region. The town of Saumur in the department 49, just half an hour’s drive from downtown Angers, is famous for its fine wine and horsemen, as well as the world’s largest collection of tanks and AFVs.
Angers was ruled in the middle ages by the House of Angevin/House of Plantagenet in England and by the valois dynasty in mainland France before becoming the territory of the principality of Anjou. The city centre still contains the castle that king René transformed. Originally built in the 9th century as a bridgehead and prison on the river Maine, the castle has never been breached.
Not far from the castle is st. Maurice’s cathedral, built in the 12th century. It is a magnificent anjou (British) style building, every stone brick, every piece of stained glass is hundreds of years old. The relief of the front door had been damaged, and was now merely covered with wooden panels and replaced with restored pictures. Angers is a city with the history and culture of medieval Britain and France, with a large number of art treasures, and now it is a university town with students from all over the world.
It claims to be the greenest city in France. The city has a high vegetation coverage, whether from the roof of library of Angers University or the Agricultural campus, or in a boat in the lake Maine, all surrounded by forests. Due to the epidemic of the coronavirus, all parks and other public entertainment facilities have been closed, so this video is shot in the city center.
I created this video to introduce the current situation of France to my friends (April 2020 – when covid-19 was raging in Europe), but it became a tourism video unconsciously. (laughter)
After the outbreak is over, you are very welcome to visit Angers. As the video is mainly aimed at Chinese audiences, the names of places and places of interest in this video are only the original French names and Chinese translations, so I add the English translation here.
