We are looking at how to pronounce the name of the AT-AT or AT-AT in Star Wars as the acronym for All Terrain Armored Transport. So, is it A T A T or AT-AT? The short answer is that there is no wrong or right way to say it, as it’s not really officially been said in the movies. There are just opinions. That said, 2 things that might give you solid indications in favor of one of them against the other. 1- There are great videos online from Star Wars connoisseurs discussing the topic, and I’ll link to them at the end of the video if you have another few minutes to spend on that. Most concur to say that the pronunciation AT-AT is the most probable one because militaries often do not pronounce each letter in acronyms and adopt a nickname for vehicles based on the acronyms like the HUMVEE as an example, for the sake of concision on the battle field. Reason number 2 is that it’s been reported that once, Joseph Lin, a journalist at Time Magazine, asked LucasFilm this question about the pronunciation, and they responded that the official pronunciation rhymes with “hat-hat”. So, in short AT-AT is the most likely even no there is no certainty about it. Linking to useful resources and videos on this if you want to learn more in the video description. Cheers
