Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay at The Savoy, London, is named after 1890, the year Auguste Escoffier joined the hotel as head chef alongside César Ritz. The father of modern French haute cuisine and the kitchen brigade system, Escoffier created Peach Melba, popularised extravagant French fine dining and was dismissed from the Savoy in 1898 following a scandal involving supplier kickbacks.

For Escoffier’s 180th birthday on 28 October 2026, Restaurant 1890 is serving a special anniversary tasting menu inspired by his recipes, including black truffle bombe, lobster cornetto, duck à l’orange beignet, French onion soup, Lobster Cardinal, Sole Véronique with grapes, squab pigeon à la Périgourdine and classic French desserts. A rather delicious homecoming for one of the most influential chefs in culinary history.
