Julien here the French winemaking guys who makes wine videos here on YouTube. Just saying this because that’s what I always say. But this not your usual wine video. I just want to make a quick video to help with the issues the world is experiencing these days. The government here in France where I live just announced last night that we’re going to be locked down at home with our kids for at least a few weeks. So I thought I’d add my little brick, with your help, to try and make things better for us all during this time.
As you perhaps know, I make a fraction of a cent for every time you watch a video on this channel, especially when you watch a commercial before it or if there is banner displaying here.
I would like to donate all of the advertising revenue made by this video to the World Heath Organization to help fighting against the current global problem. I don’t want to say the name of the issue because that may cause this video to get demonetized. Sometimes when you talk about it on YouTube, the algorithm demonetizes it because it thinks you might be spreading false information, which is understandable. But if the video gets demonetized, I’ll have nothing to donate.
So, I normally make a few dollars for each video, if that, because wine channels simply make very little views compared to food or lifestyle channels for example. But hopefully this one will be different.
So, one week from now, I will be donating all of the ad revenue made by this video to the XX-19-thing Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organisation. Of course the WHO is the United Nations’ department that deals with Health issues around the world. You can see in the description below where this donation is going to go to, I’ll put a link to the corresponding page on the WHO website if you want to check it out.
What you can do to help, two very simple things that cost nothing, just give a minute of your time.
1) Watch this video until the end and maybe watch it again making sure to watch a commercial before it, you can simply refresh the page to reload the video (press F5 on your keyboard if you have one or reload page on mobile phone)
2) Share this video as much as possible on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, LinkedIn or wherever you usually share stuff so we spread the word about it. I’m not an ambassador for the wine community by any mean, or perhaps I am in a way a little bit. I don’t know. But at least I have a public voice and I’d like to use it here to gather as much support from our community of wine people who we know are very generous and positive people, to help a good cause. And it doesn’t cost anybody anything, just a minute of our time, which some of us have plenty off or are going to have plenty off since we’re locked down at home.
So thank you for spreading the word about this as much as possible. I am thinking in a week from today, so on Tuesday the 24th of march, when the video views have slowdown, I’ll make a video to tell you how much money we’ve raised and I will donate to the WHO the entirety of the ad revenue we made together. But I will let you know. I guess if the video keeps being shared strongly in a week, I’ll let it run a little longer, but I’ll let you know in a post through the community tab here on YouTube.
Thank you for your help. Make sure to like AND share this video if you wish to help a little. I know some people may not be well aware of the seriousness of the situation because it hasn’t affected their country much yet. What I’ll tell you if simply that a week ago life was going on as normal here in France, and within four days the government has had to lock everything down, which I perfectly understand. I graduated as a student in microbiology and molecular biology before I went into winemaking, so I know a thing or two about this science behind this kind of problem, even though I’m obviously not as knowledgeable as a doctor or an epidemiologist but I’ve got some concepts in mind. It is very likely that the measures that have been adopted here may be taken very rapidly elsewhere, including I’m afraid in the US. So of course don’t panic, stay clam and reasonable. I am calm and reasonable and I think about others before myself because I’m healthy and safe for now. But be alert and aware that we can all help with small gestures in our everyday life, washing hands, social distancing, and sharing this video.
One last word. Just because it’s my passion, I’ll continue sharing wine content here while it may seem strange to talk about wine while there’s so much trouble out there. But as I said, this is my way of hopefully distracting us a little and perhaps also an opportunity to come out of this a little more knowledgeable about wine.
