Just moved into our first home purchase (woo!) and have turned this den into our casual hang out room (think movie nights, gaming, casual hangout spot). It sits right off to the right of our entryway, so still want it to be elevated and give a good first impression.
Any ideas on how to make it comfortable and inviting, yet still refined and modern? (Don’t mind the move in mess)

It is a nice cozy space. Think of a few things but if they are expensive ( not just money but time) then punt them.
Centralize TV and make it a nicer place with some more swivel chairs for people to hang out at.
Replace those blinds with nicer drapes than can also help provide privacy when needed – day vs evenings.
Good TV. Tuck the TV wire. Some decent surround system for movie nights.
My general instinct is not to color drench these rooms but lighten them up and bring in colors via paintings, furniture, pillows etc.
Build a small shelf or table on the open side for games etc or food if that’s your intent.
Sorry I don’t know other parts of your house.
