Found this bottle of 1969 Cristal in my grandparents house, hidden behind some junk with other bottles. I'm nowhere near an expert in wine or champagne, but I know that Cristal supposedly is quite a good and sought after champagne.
Any info, value, and also what to do with this bottle would be appreciated.

Should I keep it in the original bottle? Try to ask the manufacturer to re-bottle it (if it's even a possibility)?

No expert on Champagne myself, but that color looks concerning. In my experience, there is not the possibility of re-bottling champagne. Once the cork is popped the bubbles go with it. I would keep it as a conversation piece myself. Not much, if any, real monetary value to be had as storage conditions were not ideal. Real collectors are very particular about provenance when buying bottles of this age.

It’s not worth anything and Roederer is not going to rebottle it for you. Drink or display.

  3. It’s worth about $3k if it’s still good. The comment about color is misleading – champagne bottles are dark to protect against light. Find a local advanced somm.

The color is extremely concerning. Cristal is bottled in a clear bottle and is extremely susceptible to UV damage.

It’s 100% worthless on the market. Drink or gift to a wine friend who might wanna display it.

That bottle is a museum piece at this point, unless you want a glass of disappointment.

That wine is toast. Worth nothing. Drink it and (maybe) get sick. Or dump it.

Could you take a better picture against a white background?

It’s a display piece at best I’d say. No value to it per se, perhaps nice piece for someone who collects certain bottles or vintage.

1969 was a killer year in Champagne, and my birth year coincidentally, but sadly that bottle is going to be totally shot at this point, time plus poor storage. Makes a nice conversation piece however.

It has light strike. Roederer will not rebottle. A pub may buy it as a display piece
