I always have trouble decorating shelves in a cozy but not chaotic manner. In the photo, I just put everything I already have onto it (for reference). Does anyone have any tips on how to sort the stuff or exclude / include some?

In my opinion it already looks great! You hot different objects with different shape, texture, purpose etc. Let it be like that! It doesnt look either heavy or full or chaotic!👍
Frame and mat the two pics that are leaning against the wall and hang them. Maybe add a small bamboo basket or tray for some texture.
To up the cozy vibes, I’d think about adding a sconce or reading lamp and a textured throw to the chair. Hang the pictures on the wall and get ONE larger item that has an interesting color or shape. Like a gorgeous piece of pottery or a plate or vase or a teapot. I feel like all the colors are desaturated and the size of everything is fairly similar. Don’t overdo it and make sure you love the piece, but I think it could make it sing.
Looks good, just need need more large item on the lower shelf, everything on that one is too much of the same size.
