We’ve just welcomed a new Koshu to our cellar, this time from Miyazaki in southern Japan.
Koshu is Japan’s most iconic native grape, traditionally grown in Yamanashi, near Mount Fuji. It’s usually known for its crisp acidity and delicate aromas of green apple, citrus, and minerality.
We were curious to discover how this grape would express itself in Miyazaki’s much warmer, almost tropical climate
The result is surprisingly different !
This Koshu reveals generous layers of ripe peach, banana, and other stone fruits, with an inviting, almost sweet bouquet. Yet on the palate, it remains beautifully balanced, finishing clean and dry, making it a wonderfully refreshing white wine for summer.
Have you ever tasted a Koshu like this before?

I’ve had Rubaiyat Koshu Sur Lie that was pretty good. Most of the stuff just has an artificial grape taste though.
