Hermitage is the crown jewel. A single hill overlooking the town of Tain-l’Hermitage. 136 hectares — that’s it. One of the smallest great wine appellations in France.
And one name towers above all others: Jean-Louis Chave.
The Chave family has been making Hermitage for over 500 years. Sixteen generations. Jean-Louis took over from his father Gérard and makes what many consider the single greatest expression of Syrah in the entire world.
A bottle of Chave Hermitage from a great vintage is one of the most sought-after wines in existence. And compared to a similarly revered Burgundy or Bordeaux, it’s still underpriced.
